From an ultra-partisan my way or the highway approach. They had to use reconciliation, and with 34 democrats voting no, along side the entire Republican Party being against the content of the legislation it got passed with single digit margins, in leeway of unfavorable public opinion.
If nothing more is done I predict that in 10 years the percentage of uninsured Americans will be double what it is today.on the contrary, no one is gonna wanna touch health-care for another ten years. maybe an adjustment here and there, but more major reforms?
I think not.
Ironically, it appears to be the GOP that will push us towards single-payer. They're the ones claiming that forcing everyone to buy health insurance is unconstitutional, if the courts agree (not likely) single payer would be the only option.Makes sense I suppose...
The single payer system would have been impossible to pass in the current political atmosphere, and Obama along with the members in congress that support him knew it full well (heck the current bill barely passed).
Want to bet? Will you still be around here in 2015?This bill will cover 95% of the population and 32 million people.
I got a question: Some folks are objecting to the bill, because of "special deals" that were in it. Can someone give me some examples of these "special deals"? (The ones making the accusations don't seem to be giving any.)

Sounds like the Dems had some heavy influence from the dental/vision lobbyists. These are affordable services without coverage.
None of us knows if we'll be around here in five years, but the closest we have in this country to a pilot program, Mitt Romneys' version in Massachusetts, currently covers 97%.

You do realize that group is advocating single payer, right? Are you on board with single payer now?
The Dutch did a few years ago what should have been done here: they completely scrapped their former health care system and built a new one from scratch. Prior to this they had a UK-style single-payer system.
I wasn't aware that the cosmetic arrangement of your teeth was a health issue.
Well no one who opposed the new law took up unabogie's question, and I don't think anyone will take up mine, either. Of course, there's a reason for that. No one wants to acknowledge that there are people without insurance, but they still need health care or they will die, and the sort of health care that's needed for catastrophic cases simply cannot be paid for by any but the most wealthy Americans, and by "most wealthy", I mean multimillionaires and up.
So that's why we have this new law. Under the new law, that won't happen, or at least it will happen a lot less often.
I think if the Republicans would just acknowledge that reality and accept that the government has to do something to take care of that problem, they could get around to making a better bill than the one that was just passed.
