Global Warming "Skeptical Science" Website Gets Hacked

For those who don't know, "Skeptical Science" is a website that deals with the various GW-skeptic & denial claims (it's good for both, because some people are genuinely skeptical of GW while others merely deny it out of ideology). This seems like a growing trend... deniers seem to be resorting to some rather unseemly tactics in order to shut up those willing to stand up and correct their erroneous claims. And, ironically, many of these deniers claim that it is the scientists who are attempting to silence dissent!

Skeptical Science housekeeping: Contradictions, URLs and getting hacked

Fortunately, the hack wasn't very successful, as the Skeptical Science webmaster was prepared for such a move and had everything backed up. So the site is up and running like nothing ever happened.

And, btw, their awesome (and free!) iTunes app is also still available :)

Any company in any industry should have sufficient protection to safeguard their information from loss. In this case, they had their info backed up which is sensible and approriate. Not doing so would result in a "more fool you" type situation.

As for these hackers changing comments, content or reports I thought that was pretty funny. No doubt this would have somewhat inconvenient for the Skeptical Science crew but nothng more.:)

From your comments also it sounded like the hackers were trying to 'delete' the entire database - this would have been something of a tragey for them I guess and vastly more heinous that the CRU hacking. I wouldn't be surprised if this was attempted, it would be quite typical of some of the warmer tactics, by and large to suppress and repress contradictory opinion. ;)

Say it ain't so the alarmist cartoonist's website got hacked? Glad to see Matt gets his science from a cartoonist.

This whole GW issue is more like a Boston/Habs, or Michigan/Ohio State rivalry isn't it? Perhaps they should just form teams and have a show down on The Family Feud.

Basic grasp on reality fail.

repress contradictory opinion.

contrary INFORMED opinion is one thing......your self admitted ill -informed quite another....

But do wear the badge of wilful ignorance of climate science proudly ...it is MOST becoming...and suitable...

It's regretful but typical of deniers to stoop to such tactics when their ilk are dying for want of valid talking points on the science....
they have to create their own media events...vandalous ones...:garfield:

Not sure who all is sufferring from reality disconnect here,...Skeptical Science is a AGW science resource site, providing detailed scientific rebuttal to the psuedoskeptical denier arguments. I'm pretty sure you are aware of this, but many in this thread seem to be as confused about such matters as they are about the nature of what the actual science has to say about issues of climate change and the current climate warming.

The author is a trained physicist, and the content on that website comes from the rich literature on the subjects he discusses. Ad hominem much?

as a matter of record he does....that's all the tactical ammo left - nary a spec of science and even the fossil fuel interests have deserted the AGW denier cause...

deniers rapidly devolving to flat earthers/anti-evo types....and just as quaint....

he's just another anti-science right winger ...zero respect for the scientists who DO understand climate change......so ad homs are his refuge. :garfield:

Macdoc became self-aware at 2:14 am Eastern time...

I'm glad the site had a backup. The debate should not be conducted with vandalism or ad hominems, but with a dispassionate look at all the relevant evidence.
