Racist announcement over Wal-Mart loudspeaker

Good morning I Ratant
The 2010 Census form lists both "black" and "negro" as choices for "race" on question 9, as well as "African Am.".
There have been problems raised about that.
I am sure there is a good reason for why this question of race is on the Census and would love to have someone explain it to me.
When asked about my race I usually say "From most sources I've read, we as a species seem to have started somewhere in northern Africa., I guess I'm African American just like everyone else."
I assume they expect me to check the "White" box because of my color, but seriously, what differance does it make?
eta Perhaps this should be in it's own topic.

This week, authorities have said they're investigating the episode as "a suspected bias intimidation crime."

Putting aside my opinion that hate crime legislation are completely unconstitutional, I want to know how "all black people need to go home," even equates to intimidation.

"I can't go back in," said Patricia Covington, who was also in the store and spoke to Philly.com. "I went to Target instead. I can't bring myself to go back in there."

Are we over reacting just a tad, here? I've only been discriminated against for being a woman and for being disabled so maybe I don't know what it's like to be discriminated against for being black. Of course, I am not in that situation but I suspect if I suddenly heard over the loud speaker "all one legged people need to go home," I would probably pee myself laughing so hard. It certainly wouldn't make it difficult going back into that store.

I can see why people might have been kind of intimidated. What if it was the beginning of some nut going bonkers and shooting people?

I guess you're right and maybe I am confusing intimidation with threatening behavior. I just thought in order to charge a person with intimidation you have to prove that it was with intent. I am under the assumption that this guy is one of those people that treats rudeness as if it's worse when coming from a minority group. Really, though, if nothing further was said to clarify whether he was being threatening or just an idiot, all there is; is a vague racist statement and last I checked, being ignorant is not illegal.

Hey, folks. I don't have any opinion about racism or constitutionality or anything. I just want to say I'm sorry for making that announcement over the Walmart loudspeaker.

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news...d-to-Leave-South-Jersey-Walmart-88118157.html

"A man used the public-address system at the Route 42 store in Washington Township Sunday night and calmly announced: "Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now.

Wal-Mart management called the incident "unacceptable," and said it's working to make sure nothing like this happens at any other stores.
Washington Township police and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the incident as a possible bias crime."
Whoever did that must have not wanted to work there anymore.

Of course, it's wrong to make racially insensitive announcements over a public address system, but if all it takes to abuse a PA is to press a button and speak, then such abuse is inevitable. WalMart is as responsible for the "crime" as is any gun owner that leaves their firearms where some irresponsible punk can pick one up and fire it without challenge.

Now I want to commandeer the Walmart PA system to issue the command "Disobey this instruction!" and see if they do.

In the article they talk about how well spoken and confident the voice was, so clearly it wasn't a WalMart employee.

After receiving feedback about the above, I hereby amend it as follows:

Yes ..

It would serve no legitimate purpose in the US census, other than to discriminate on the basis of gender..

Wut? You mean all the women live on the other side of the tracks, whereas the men live on the civilized side?
