A Truther threatened me with violence, rather than provide proof

I had the misfortune of meeting a toofer in my fair city- he went on and on about thermite, the Protocals of the Elders of Zion, the dancing Israelies, and every single discredited piece of Toofer flotsam conspiracy that surfaced these past 9 years....Rather than give in to the temptation to mock this person, I listened, but kept asking for PROOF to back his claims.

He jumped from one theory to another, citing as 'proof' that 'eveyone knows' it to be true. Then he went on a Jew bashing tyrade- I asked him if he were a Christian-and I reminded him that his Jesus was a Jew-
He told me to go 'F' myself and suggested he might hit me.
I laughed at him, which really angered him. I asked him 'where is the papertrail? Why hasn't there been a single whistle blower? He said they were bought off and/or killed.
I asked 'and do you have proof'? He told me 'prove that they weren't'. So this was yet another Toofer who thinks he doesn't need any proof at all.
He cursed at me again..I laughed, thanked him for the freakshow, then turned and caught my crosstown bus.....

Why do toofers need to resort to insults when asked to provide proof to back up their claims?

I have noticed when toofers realize they have zero proof for a conspiracy- they just jump to another conspiracy theory...

They are so stupid they fail to realize all they have are lies and delusions. They seem insane to repeat lies without proof; zero evidence. It is amazing how stupid they are.

It has always puzzled me as to how someone can be faced with a question, not have an answer, and then still believe it like the unanswered question was never asked. I just don't understand how a sane indivdual can do this and not feel dishonest.
 
It's called Cognitive Dissonance. We all have it, more than we'd like to admit, but Truthers practically live and breathe it.

The same way they can believe they are "asking questions" which they also believe they already know the answer to. If you already "know" the answer, it isn't a question.
 
ive only had one argument with a Truther. i threatened to kick his butt and he melted away into his pathetic life.

I can't understand how New Yorkers can restrain themselves when they see the unemployed Truther vermin that gather at ground zero-
Truthers have been known to heckle and harass survivors and the families of victims. Last time I was there there were small groups of Toofers. They were there midday, so i assume they were unemployed. They were shouting slogans.I wanted to smack them....Most New Yorkers seemed to ignore them- as one would ignore a disease infested pigeon..

Because most of them believe in conspiracies for psychological reasons. So, when you attack their assertions, they view it as a direct attack on themselves. It's strange, but to this guy who threatened you with physical violence, you were the one threatening him/

That's the subconscious working feverishly to keep the person from having to confront the fact that he might be inadequate. It's quite the survival mechanism.

I have noticed that mental illness and the belief in vast conspiracies seem to go hand in hand. I wouldn't be surprised if their paranoia, and clear detachment from reality are indications of mental illness.....
Some of these Truthers are *VERY* paranoid people, many of whom have no lives outside of their obsession with the 'Truther' movement. Many of them believe in multiple conspiracies- that 9/11 was an inside job, that the moon landing never happened, etc....Their inabilty to use logic when framing their arguments makes me wonder if their marbles are all there..

Safe assumption: They aren't and any efforts to change them will be fruitless. Even the idea, which I generally support, that a Pyrrhic victory over them cannot be abandoned because later readers might assume that the last one talking is the winner, eventually allows me to pass my slight share of the baton to someone else.
 
He is an Angry Young Man.

These AYM's (which in reality are sort of like apprentices to the snake oil salesmen like DRG, AJ, etc..) rely on (A) knowledge that they have and you do not, and (B) your ignorance to their lack of proof for claims they make.

Now, when you prove not to be the typical easy target...you know, someone who knows a bit about their claims, or someone who demands proof, they get all frustrated. The hormones take over, and the anger and violence tend to follow.
