Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

The man said what he said, I can't prove him wrong in his statement.
Of course you can't. You've display terrible thinking and reasoning skills.

The only historical evidence I know of the American Revolution is what I've read in a few history books. I've read 27 books of the New Testament, and I know at least 42 US Presidents have claimed to be Christian. To be honest I've read more historical evidence for Christ than I have for the American Revolution..
1. I don't actually believe you read 27 books.
2. Your 42 president argument is simply stupid.
3. Your lack of scholarship regarding the american revolution says more about you and your honesty when discussing Jefferson and the founding fathers than it does about the american revolution.

ETA: And I cannot remember reading any eyewitnesses to the American Revolution that specifically talked about the American Revolution. I doubt if any of the history books I've read that talked about the Amer. Rev. were written by eyewitnesses to it.
1. So you've never read the declaration of independence?
got it.

The only thing I have to say regarding the American Revolution derail is summed up nicely in the following picture

I know where some books that were not written by eyewitnesses said it happened. And you have probably gotten most of your info about it from authors who never witnessed it.

Whereas I have brought in evidence that apostles who were eyewitnesses to the life of Christ - Matthew and John - wrote the accounts that have been attributed to them for 2000 years.
.
Buncha guys got together in Paris, with the authority of George III, and wrote up a treatise on a treaty about the just concluded event...
http://www.theamericanrevolution.org/hdocs/paristreaty.asp

.
" It having pleased the Divine Providence to dispose the hearts of the most serene and most potent Prince George the Third, by the grace of God, king of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, defender of the faith, duke of Brunswick and Lunebourg, arch- treasurer and prince elector of the Holy Roman Empire etc., and of the United States of America, to forget all past misunderstandings and differences that have unhappily interrupted the good correspondence and friendship which they mutually wish to restore, and to establish such a beneficial and satisfactory intercourse , between the two countries upon the ground of reciprocal advantages and mutual convenience as may promote and secure to both perpetual peace and harmony; and having for this desirable end already laid the foundation of peace and reconciliation by the Provisional Articles signed at Paris on the 30th of November 1782, by the commissioners empowered on each part, which articles we.....".
Hell of a runon sentence...
.
And another George, in deep doo-doo at Valley Forge, wrote this on May 1, 1778.. 5 years -before- the war concluded..

The Treaty of Alliance between France and the United States was concluded at Paris, February 6, 1778 and ratified by Congress May 4, 1778. The treaty provided for a defensive alliance to aid France should England attack, and that neither France nor the United States would make peace with England until the independence of the United States was recognized. The knowledge of the Alliance came to Washington on May Day, 1778.

One week later General George Washington issued the following general order:

"It having pleased the Almighty Ruler of the universe to defend the course of the United States, and finally raise up a powerful friend among the princes of the earth, to establish our Liberty and Independence upon a lasting foundation, it becomes us to set apart a day for gratefully acknowl..."
Another runon sentence terminated..
Both Georges mention God... :) :(

You know, I'm truly surprised, DOC, given your apparent admiration for, and propensity for wheeling in to support your argument, Thomas Jefferson, that you don't appear to know that he was part of the American Revolution, and even wrote about it.

Well, see, what Jefferson says about the "sayings of Jesus" is the absolute truth, but all that American Revolution stuff is just the product of a fevered imagination.

And don't get me started on that "Declaration of Independence" thing...

Nice post. Good analysis and I liked the final wit...

The thing is... Doc doesn't know much on the subject, is not willing to learn (too lazy or too afraid that it might challenge his beliefs) so he can't deal with long, well argumented posts (and, he might be too lazy to read them) so he largely ignore them.
That leaves him with the mid to short posts. He sometime tackle the middle length ones but, once again, has little abilities to do so.

So, he mostly likes to deal with the shortest ones, and sometime isolate random bits of longer posts, essentially treating them as short posts. Thanksfully for Doc, these short posts are, by their very nature, often limited to snippy comments, which just happen to be easier to deal with when you live in an reasoning vacuum...

Thank you for your remarks. I fully realize that what you say in all probability is true based on Doc's posting history, which are all out there to see. However I am trying to follow that advice about 'wrestling a pig in mud'. Now if you like mud... or pigs for that matter... have at it!

It requires seconds to google any of this stuff for confirmation..
What will never be confirmed are things like..
"Jerusalem Gazette"..." Local Mendicant Feeds 5000 On Scraps"..
Or in the City Business section.. "Messiah Applies For Parade Permit"..
Or, FOIA researcher finds the Executive Order for the Massacre of the Innocents"... As none of this ever happened.

<snip>

We actually have, many, journals and diaries (written during the facts) of people witnessing or even participating in the events. It really was quite fashionable at the time compared to today.

We also have memoirsand autobiographies, written after the fact but by confirmed witnesses.

We also have many, many letters written at that time and referencing the events.

We also have a lot of Newspapers in many countries.

We have official documents and transcripts (like, minutes from meetings and such).

We also have artifacts and archaeological evidences.

No evidences? If you are purposely trying not to see them, maybe... Well, no, not even then... you are probably lying once more.

(by zooterkin)(sorry, still trying to figure out basic stuff - like multi-quoting)

Fantastic, both nominated. I'm just going to assume that he meant to say Alexander the Great so that I can <insert groundhog day reference> and use it as an excuse to ask again : how did Judas die?

Annoying I know, but it's one of my favourite questions to ask since I started my beliefs seriously. Especially since I can't use any of the fun stuff from the old testament in this thread - although I had to abandon an argument recently with a theist who not only agreed that 42 youths being killed by bears actually happened as written, but that it was moral and good for god to do it....

You're too kind, really (albeit Zooterkin's does deserve his nomination).

Nah; I am not wrestling the pig ( which is how I see trying to have an actual honest conversation with Doc)... I'm tired of wrestling and Leviticus explicitely prohibits porcine Pankration.
Anyway, good luck with you attempt to open a line of dialogue into the Doc-ginot line but I expect you are going to waste your time as he is not born yet the Guderian that will drive through the Ardennes of Doc's self delusions...

I wonder, would this be of any use to anyone here?

Thanks, too, though I think Simon39759's took a bit more work (and I'm not completely sure about the grammar of mine).

For multiquoting, assuming you want to quote 3 posts, click on the " button for the first and second posts you want to quote, then on the "Quote" button for the third. You should then have all three posts in the Reply box for editing.

No, "reply" should work logically, but does not: took me weeks to figure out that's what I was doing wrong.

Hmmm, weird...it works like that for me. It took me forever to figure out what the multi-quote button was - I kept trying to use "quote" for everything, and of course it took me right to the "reply" page.
