Miss me yet? - Billboard

My uninformed guess that the sign is a prelude to the 2010 elections.

And if we see a successful terrorist attack in the next few months, there may be a lot more of them going up.

Not in the least.

I do miss Cheney though. That dude scared the hell out of people. :p

He'll be the guest this coming Sunday 14 Feb. 2010 on This Week With George Snuffalufagous , if you're that interested. :)

No S---,Sherlock.
The point is that reminding people of Dubya is NOT a brilliant move for the GOP.

You think it sends no message at all, seriously?

No, I didn't say that. I said the message is AMBIGUOUS. That means there was a message but there is more than one interpretation.

It either means "Obama is so bad, you should miss Bush." or it is saying "Things were worse with Bush, don't miss the goofball." Maybe it is "just for lulz" I don't know.

I understand this is difficult for you. When you see a picture of Bush, you think happy thoughts like Pavlov's dogs.

Seriously, how bad would Obama have to do in 4 years to make the previous 8 look good in comparison? Yikes.

For those on the left, I'm guessing absolutely no disaster would be enough to consider it worse than Bush's presidency. And yet, I suspect many right wingers feel already that Obama is more of a failure than Bush. I don't think there is much true objectivity, with regards to either of them, from the more extreme partisans.

If Obama engages in three wars that I feel are unnecessary, then I will consider it worse than the Bush presidency. My standard for necessity is basically invasion, constant attack or a formal declaration of war. Even then I might not be convinced a war is necessary. Another alternative might be if he declares more than three people caught in the US as enemy combatants. Or privatizes medicare and social security.

The major criticisms I had of Obama before office was he appeared to have a weak stance in regards to civil rights issues as I saw them. I feel justified in my trepidation. Still, comparing Obama to Bush in this capacity yields favorable to Obama.

I think at worse Bush was a barely mediocre president put into a difficult spot, 9-11. I disagreed with a number of his policies and found them harmful. Overall I do not think he was evil or exceptionally stupid, he is likely more intelligent than I. Certainly better educated. Still, I feel he is greatly misguided and too easily swayed by influences I consider negative. Yes, I think Bush appears quite positive if compared to people such as Hitler or Stalin. If my choices for President were Bush or Chavez I would choose Bush. At least in retrospect, I'm uncertain what my opinion of Chavez would have been if I knew of him before his presidency.

Do I miss him yet? No. Will I ever? Possibly. I doubt it, there are plenty of comical politicians still highly active. I feel we never got the full run of Newt and he is poking his head back into the firing range. Bush was overplayed. Beating on him for his oratory and religiousness frankly got boring. My very liberal comedy shows and stand up acts have not suffered. I think they reference him too much still.

I'm sure I can guess where you think I fit on that scale, but I consider myself mostly a centrist except for a few social issues (e.g. gay marriage, evolution/sex ed in classrooms, etc.) that are to the left in the US.

I can certainly think of several things that would make me consider Obama's presidency "bad". Like Fallen Serpent, I can even think of a few things that would make me consider Obama "worse that Bush". But as I indicated, they would have to be absolutely "Yikes" worthy.

I think people must miss W. Otherwise no one would pay to put that billboard up. And these things are not cheap. So what is the motivation? I do not think it was paid by the GOP. Do you?

I do not doubt that there are people who miss Bush. I have heard that sentiment a few times, mostly from Republicans. The motivation for the billboard remains unclear. There are multiple ways to slant the intention and considering the anonymity of the situation I feel uncertain of any speculation. I also doubt it was paid for by the GOP. Maybe a specific Repbulican or a specific organization, but doubtful one of the national GOP organizations.
