The world went for Neighbours,why didn't they go for that?

Because:

Yeah Kylie is an absolute darling. The spunk and ternacity she showed during her fight with cancer continues to be an inspiration for many trying to deal with this horrible disease

None more than me cobber, I promise you that.

As much as I love Kylie, someone else will have to cover that part of her story.

I'll just do the pictures. :)

Well that sounds like a plan. What this thread needs. More photos of ugly Australian girls....In fact she is so ugly we sent her to England where she would not stick out so much :p

:) I shall see what I can find.

Gee there are some nice people in the world. I dearly hope that everything works out for them. Surely there's some justice in the Universe, but if not, I'll settle for a lucky break.

Be well mate.

The sun was hot already - it was only 8 o'clock
The cocky took off in his Ute, to go and check his stock.
He drove around the paddocks checking wethers, ewes and lambs,
The float valves in the water troughs, the windmills on the dams.

He stopped and turned a windmill on to fill a water tank
And saw a ewe down in the dam, a few yards from the bank.
"Typical bloody sheep," he thought, "they've got no common sense,
"They won't go through a gateway but they'll jump a bloody fence."

The ewe was stuck down in the mud, he knew without a doubt
She'd stay there 'til she carked it if he didn't get her out.
But when he reached the water's edge, the startled ewe broke free
And in her haste to get away, began a swimming spree.

He reckoned once her fleece was wet, the weight would drag her down
If he didn't rescue her, the stupid sod would drown.
Her style was unimpressive, her survival chances slim
He saw no other option, he would have to take a swim.

He peeled his shirt and singlet off, his trousers, boots and socks
And as he couldn't stand wet clothes, he also shed his jocks.
He jumped into the water and away that cocky swam
He caught up with her, somewhere near the middle of the dam

The ewe was quite evasive, she kept giving him the slip
He tried to grab her sodden fleece but couldn't get a grip.
At last he got her to the bank and stopped to catch his breath
She showed him little gratitude for saving her from death.

She took off like a Bondi tram around the other si d e
He swore next time he caught that ewe he'd hang her bloody hide.
Then round and round the dam they ran, although he felt quite puffed
He still thought he could run her down, she must be nearly stuffed.

The local stock rep came along, to pay a call that day.
He knew this bloke was on his own, his wife had gone away
He didn't really think he'd get fresh scones for morning tea
But nor was he prepared for what he was about to see.

He rubbed his eyes in disbelief at what came into view
For running down the catchment came this frantic-looking ewe.
And on her heels in hot pursuit and wearing not a stitch
The farmer yelling wildly "Come back here, you lousy bitch!"

The stock rep didn't hang around, he took off in his car
The cocky's reputation has been damaged near and far
So bear in mind the Work Safe rule when next you check your flocks
Spot the hazard, assess the risk, and always wear your jocks

That's the first question you've ever asked that's completely stumped me, Lovely Lady.
I didn't mean to, hones' promise!

I'm guessing Banjo Patterson's poems sort of capture something between folklore and rosy-glassed history for you all. Sort of like America's Wild West, as re-imagined by artists, poets, and storytellers through the years.

Yeah, kinda. He's Australia's most famous poet - actually, I think he's Australia's only famous poet. I for one grew up with illustrated childrens' books of Mulga Bill's Bicycle and The Man From Ironbark, and an anthology of his other works. His poems have been set to music and made into movies. He has a memorial and statue outside Orange, NSW. He's pictured on our $10 note.

Yeah, he's a pretty famous guy.

Mulga Bill's Bicycle

'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze;
He turned away the good old horse that served him many days;
He dressed himself in cycling clothes, resplendent to be seen;
He hurried off to town and bought a shining new machine;
And as he wheeled it through the door, with air of lordly pride,
The grinning shop assistant said, "Excuse me, can you ride?"

"See here, young man," said Mulga Bill, "from Walgett to the sea,
From Conroy's Gap to Castlereagh, there's none can ride like me.
I'm good all round at everything as everybody knows,
Although I'm not the one to talk - I hate a man that blows.
But riding is my special gift, my chiefest, sole delight;
Just ask a wild duck can it swim, a wildcat can it fight.
There's nothing clothed in hair or hide, or built of flesh or steel,
There's nothing walks or jumps, or runs, on axle, hoof, or wheel,
But what I'll sit, while hide will hold and girths and straps are tight:
I'll ride this here two-wheeled concern right straight away at sight."

'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that sought his own abode,
That perched above Dead Man's Creek, beside the mountain road.
He turned the cycle down the hill and mounted for the fray,
But 'ere he'd gone a dozen yards it bolted clean away.
It left the track, and through the trees, just like a silver steak,
It whistled down the awful slope towards the Dead Man's Creek.

It shaved a stump by half an inch, it dodged a big white-box:
The very wallaroos in fright went scrambling up the rocks,
The wombats hiding in their caves dug deeper underground,
As Mulga Bill, as white as chalk, sat tight to every bound.
It struck a stone and gave a spring that cleared a fallen tree,
It raced beside a precipice as close as close could be;
And then as Mulga Bill let out one last despairing shriek
It made a leap of twenty feet into the Dean Man's Creek.

'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that slowly swam ashore:
He said, "I've had some narrer shaves and lively rides before;
I've rode a wild bull round a yard to win a five-pound bet,
But this was the most awful ride that I've encountered yet.
I'll give that two-wheeled outlaw best; it's shaken all my nerve
To feel it whistle through the air and plunge and buck and swerve.
It's safe at rest in Dead Man's Creek, we'll leave it lying still;
A horse's back is good enough henceforth for Mulga Bill."

Funny!

I did see "Man from Snowy River" back when it made the rounds in the USA (mid-to-late 80s? Shoot, coulda been 1970 for all I can remember...) It was a darn good story, and quite amazing cinematography.

Wow, on your $10 note. THAT'S famous! :D

lol

This is what happens when you muck around all the time.

When dafydd said he couldn't see the clip in Belgium I assumed he was having a lend of me, and made a smart-arse response instead of looking for another source. However, I know I can safely take HBS' words at face value (no offence Daf :)) so I'd better come clean.

I have no idea why the clip doesn't work in Belgiium and Hawaii, but it doesn't matter too much because the fact is that I was rickroling you.

Why any countries would block Rick Astley singing Never Gonna Give You Up is a complete mystery to me, and kinda funny in itself, but there you go.

Perhaps your governments have undertaken to protect you from the horror of being rickrolled? Too funny.

Anyway, sorry for any confusion, and let that be a lesson to me!

Well I got a message saying Sony had withdrawn permission for the clip to use copywrited material in my country
