Savage beagles terrorize East End

Mattituck resident Dot Faszczewski came face to face with the canine menace two weeks ago, when she was set upon by a group of crazed, hungry beagles as she walked her pet dogs near her parents' Orient Point home. She said it was like a scene from a werewolf movie.

"I grabbed the two dogs and ran inside," she said. "I just closed the door when they jumped at the door, and they broke that aluminum portion underneath."

The angry beagles that attacked Faszczewski are part of a huge community of feral beagles that roams the woods and fields of eastern Long Island after being abandoned by hunters who used them to track down rabbits.

Feral, wild, beagles.

Let me just sit back and try to grok that concept for a while.

Did a bunch of hunters get sick of tracking rabbits and just let all of their beagles loose simultaneously? Are there no feral packs of other breeds? Are the beagles discriminating against other dogs (i.e. King Charles Spaniels can't join our pack)?

Heard of camels? Sure I have!

But what do they have to do with hunting rabbits?

These are Long Island hunters. I have been taking bets as to when one of them is actually going to kill someone they are that dumb.

This Is Not Funny

This could have been really serious. Wild dogs tear apart and KILL children, adults, even adult couples and it's not a rare occurrence. That has got to be a pretty horrific way to die, being torn apart alive. That woman doesn't realize who lucky she was. Just Google "boy killed by wild dogs", several this year in Canada or Google " killed by dogs" for adults. Scary, carry a good stick. SS

Wild, feral dogs attacking people, not uncommon.

Wild, feral beagles attacking people, rather uncommon. And kinda funny.

I was attacked by WILD Bluegills last summer when I went swimming in Northern Michigan.
They ate the dead skin off my feet. It's very theraputic.
