No. She was committed because, in the course of talking about her 9/11 beliefs, she made a comment that was interpreted as a desire to cause harm to herself. (She claimed she was being followed, I believe, and that she would kill herself before letting Them™ get to her.)

EDIT TO ADD: You cannot just incarcerate someone in a mental hospital because they believe 911 was an inside job, that sounds to me like an illegal case. If you were able to do that then you could simply lock up anyone ho believed in god.

That is true. However, if someone started talking about how they "knew" the Devil was watching them and that they'd kill themselves before The Dark Prince could steal their soul, you'd be reasonably suspicious that their mental state may cause this person to physical harm themselves.

Nobody has established a link between mental illness and believing in a 911 conspiracy.

I'm sure if any professional organization cared enough to do a study, they'd find a high correlation.

Agreed.

The type of delusion that truthers suffer from is found across all demographic groups and education levels. For the most part, they are able to function in society despite their delusions. If they were not, then I would think they could be considered mentally ill.

no, but you can hospitalize someone who is extemelly paranoid, thinks the NWO govt. is out to get them, believes that the air is being poisoned, believes that the water is being poisoned with Nazi prozac-fluoride, and expects the govt. to knock down his door any day to put him in a FEMA death camp.

such a person, is not mentally stable, and may be at risk of hurting himself or others.
 
If you express absurd beliefs and carry a gun into a school, CPL or none, it is a matter of public safety that you be examined at once to determine your mental status.

Cook, like Swinney, made the mistake of thinking that proving that 9/11 was an inside jobby would prove that he was not guanophrenic.

It's hard to figure out from the information provided if he brought the gun into school or just keep it in the car. Are the 9/11 conspirators now targeting teachers in Kentucky years after the event? How is having a gun going to protect you from "them"?
 
mental illness is a serious issue and should not be made fun of.

that said, people who entertain a whole sort of paranoid and irrational delusions about chemtrails, Nazi-fluoride, FEMA death camps, NWO men in black behind the hedges, etc etc....are clearly not in their right mind and do st the very least...need psycholical counseling. And I'm sure many of them also need medications and/or hospitalization.

Paranoia, irrational thoughts, and guns...are a deadly mix. Many Truthers own guns.
 
Any group of people who call for the murder of those they disagree with are by definition insane.

100% Agreed. A lot of Truthers really do see themsleves as Neo in "The Matrix". The obssesion with that film a lot of Twoofers have shows that.

And you can be sure it isn't just us. It's people whose opinion gets you locked up where you belong. But don't get too worried. 92% of Americans believe the US government was directly involved in 911. They'll send someone to save you.
