Why doesn't Rand Paul publicaly renounce the fundraising help he gets from Stormfront? What is it about this guy that neo-Nazis and white suppremacy groups seem to like so much?

In fairness to him, I hate this sort of attack. No one need explain the actions of White Supremacists, or any other group. If tomorrow the KKK said that Avatar was an amazing movie that exemplified their ideals, James Cameron would not need to explain why the KKK loved his movie.

It's called guilt by association (look, you, Hitler, and Stalin were all male! Why do you have so much in common with those mass murders?), and its nasty. Don't do it.

The difference is that Jim Cameron isn't running for the Senate.

In the same way that Obama had to distance himself from Rev. Wright why can't Paul or someone in his campaign just issue a statment condeming Stormfront? Don't the voters have the right to know where he stands in regard to this?

Uh yes, the reason that Cameron wouldn't have to explain himself is totally because he's not running for Senate, not because it's stupid. Stormfront is Stormfront. Obama attended Wright's church for quite some time. Show Little Orphan Aynnie attending KKK meetings, or posting on Stormfront or something. Show Stormfront staffers on his campaign. In short, show something besides your useless guilt by association.

It's a despicable tactic, and the fact I might not like the person you're using it against doesn't make it less despicable.

Since when is anything in politics fair? Don't you agree that it was a smart political move on Obama's part to distance himself from Wright even though there was no proof that he ever shared Wright's beliefs? Rand Paul is a fool if he doesn't realize this story will only get bigger as the election gets closer.

The Rand campaign had no trouble issuing a statement after their treasurer resigned last month when it was revealed that he maintained a MySpace page that included racist remarks.

Today the Rand Paul campaign became aware of some disturbing images on a social network site attributed to a campaign staffer," a statement from the Paul campaign said in announcing Hightower's resignation. "These images in no way represent Dr. Paul or his campaign nor do they represent the beliefs of this staff member. These images are reprehensible and have no place in civil discourse."

This? This is your excuse? Your excuse is that you're deliberately unfair, committing a logical fallacy, and can't even be bothered to justify it, but it's okay because some other people are doing the same thing?

Holy hell, man. Can't you criticize Paul on the dubious merits of his ideas? It's not like they're really all that hard to criticize. I mean are you really telling me you read all of his ideas and positions, all of his speeches and rhetoric, and the biggest criticism you could come up with was 'Stormfront likes him?' What a paucity of imagination.

I agree.

However, Paul recently had a staffer resign (meaning fired) over racist statements and photos on the staffer's myspace page.

In his statement on the matter, Rand Paul talked about how racism is vile and would not be tolerated in his campaign, etc. I don't think it's a far stretch to think that he should return campaign contributions to known racist organizations like the KKK or Stormfront (if contributions have been made by such organizations).

When I first read the thread title, I assumed someone was making fun of Ron Paul by calling him that. I didn't realize he had a kid named Rand, and then assumed he named him after Ayn Rand as well. It doesn't pay to assume around here. :)

It's not about if Stormfront likes him, it's about if he likes Stormfront. He certainly doesn't mind their money. Who gives a crap if he would support a bill that says life begins at conception.
 
So seriously, the best thing to criticize about this guy is that some of the individuals donating to him (because Stormfront, as a whole, did not collectively donate to him as an NPO) are members of Stormfront?

Really? I mean the best thing you can criticize is that he didn't police donations that number in the hundreds of dollars or less, finely enough to detect members of an anonymous internet message board?

I am boggled beyond all belief. I don't care what gender you are, that's stupid.

It doesn't matter if Stormfront donated only two cents to him, the criticizism is on Paul not speaking against hate groups that openly raise funds for his campaign.

As for the rest of the Paul platform, again who cares? It's just a bunch of libertartian nonsense, little to none of which could ever be implimented even if Paul is elected.

Thinking that discussing Paul's position on say homeschooling is more important than his position on hate groups....well that's stupid.
