Durability of Acrylic Paints

I wonder if rich private collectors will follow these guidelines. Given the fact that some of them use art as some kind of investment I rather suspect they will.
Thanks for the links Aitch! :)

Those of you/us/whatever who paint using acrylic based paints may be interested in Pioneering research project on acrylic paints – findings revealed, at the Tate Gallery research pages.

Also, this, this and this may be of interest.

Then again, you might not. ;)

Thanks Aitch for putting the "E" in JREF. I am one that is interested in this topic as my wife and I own a large acrylic painting we bought new about 30 years ago. It is by no means a vibrant as it one was and we have debated whether it had faded or become dirty. From the article and the newsletters, I gather that there is some possibility that cleaning might help. I'll investigate the possibilities of having it done or, even, doing it myself.

There's always the possibility that, even if it has faded, it's not due to it being acrylic paint. Has it been hung somewhere exposed to bright light? That can fade any painting/print. That's why I keep my Chris Ofili print out of direct bright light. Unfortunately, it loses something because of this - the under-printing is in a flourescent ink. Which doesn't glow in the dark unless it has been exposed to a bright light!

Anyway, fingers crossed that your painting just needs a good clean.
