Amanda Knox guilty - all because of a cartwheel

The same electropherogram as in the open letter

If anyone is in any doubt whether the knife DNA is a match for Meredith's DNA, here is the chart from the Knife laid over the chart for Meredith's DNA: PERUGIA MURDER FILE

Look at how low the signal to noise is, especially in the last row. Also note the unusual inequality of peak sizes. Finally, note how some peaks that are almost as big as those claimed to be from MS are not marked. Nice try.

I would suppose because the positioning of the DNA would indicate the position of the grip and that grip is deemed different then the grip would be were it to cut.

The theory being that everyone grips a knife exactly one way for piercing and exactly one way for cutting?

Who knows Kestrel. You would need to ask an expert and we don't have on here so far as I know

These are the charts presented in court. I didn't 'try' anything. The fact is, despite your continuous repetition that it's 'low'...we all know it's low and Stefanoni has always maintained that it's low...all the peaks are there for Meredith's peaks and there aren't any peaks there that shouldn't be. And from that, it can be seen that the noise to peak ratio is also very low. It's Meredith's DNA.

So, I'll ask you once again...are you trying to argue that it's 'not' Meredith's DNA on the knife?

It is one thing to say that it might be DNA from MK. It is another thing to affirm that it is DNA from MK. The second has a much higher bar.

You don't have to be an expert to figure this out. Just start with the knowledge that the DNA sample was found on a rough spot on the handle. Then go look at similar knives in your own kitchen.

What spot on a knife handle would only contact a persons hand when they were stabbing something? What prevents one from coming into contact with that spot during normal kitchen use or while cleaning the knife?

My link works just as well as Piktor’s and both have the text I quoted

halides1,

Your link does not work.

Mine does work. It could be your computer 'remembers' the complete url and automatically redirects to the correct 'complete' page adress.

This is my URL for that page:

My URL without 'http : // www'

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1233539/Amanda-Knox-victim-anti-American-trial-campaigners-urge-Hillary-Clinton-launch-investigation.html#ixzz0aM2FTt0D

This is your url for that same page:

Some of your links work, some of your links do not work. And you are the scientist.

So let me get this straight... you admit that MKs DNA might be in the knife. The owner of the knife said that MKs DNA should be on the knife.

Where exactly is the magic step that should make us disregard that MK was in contact with the knife?

Guede's appeal was finalised today: his sentence was reduced to 24 years and 1/3 discount applied for choosing the fast track option. So the end result was 16 years.

Any idea how much of that 16 years he would expect to serve in Italy?

They give a discount for taking a fast track trial? I wonder what the thinking is there.

I do not know what he will serve

I think the discount for fast track is in recognition of cooperation in a way: but I am not sure about it. It is quite standard apparently: it was very unusual for them not to give him it in the court of first instance

Because instead of putting the state and the victims through an 11 - 12 month trial, a fast track trial only takes 1 - 1 and 1/2 months. It's usually taken by those pleading guilty. It's basically an incentive for offenders to take the fast track rather then the full trial. To a degree, we have a similar system in place in the UK...a guilty plea is taken into account in the sentencing and earns a discount (due to it saving the state and victims time and money) from what they would have got having been found guilty after pleading innocent.

Maybe they should try to make their normal trials a bit quicker?

You can't make it any quicker. If a trial takes 'X' amount of hearings, then it requires 'X' amount of hearings. All the witnesses need to be heard and cross examined, all the closing speaches have to be made etc,. It isn't the 'length' of time that's the problem.

I think we should not forget that this trial took as long as it did for a number of reasons:

There were two defendants and they were separately represented. So each witness was cross examined twice

There were many witnesses

There was a lot of expert testimony and videos and presentations of various kinds

Sollecitos's lead counsel could not attend except at weekends because of other commitments (I believe she is a parliamentarian)

The court procedure allows for questions from the judge and the jury and they may recall witnesses if they wish

There was a summer recess.

All of that is going to take some time, but aside from the short legal week I do not think it would be quicker in many other countries (though some have preparatory hearings which seek to establish points of agreement which do not then have to be tested: not very likely to get much mileage from that in this case even if it were available, I think)

In a fast track procedure (which can only happen at the request of the accused) there is no trial of that sort. It is based on the findings of the investigation and no new evidence can be introduced: there is no jury: it seems to be like "summary procedure" in Scotland. I think there is a similar mechanism in england: not sure about the USA.

Essentially the accused gives up some of his rights (he opts out of a jury trial) and therefore some of his safeguards. In return for this cooperation he is "rewarded" by a reduction in sentence. There is something similar in english law, as Fulcanelli says: cooperation is taken into account in considering sentence; as is the stage at which the accused pleads guilty, if he or she does plead guilty.
