Merged Kent Hovind's dissertation is available online

I'm scared to download that. Ignorance of that magnitude might contaminate the computer.

Chapter nine discusses the "best evidence" evolutionists have for evolution, that is, archaeopteryx.

Stopped reading right there. I had to go beat my head against a wall for a few minutes.

BTW, page seven. I win.

I was under the impression this is the original offering. If he's updated it the real original must be two compost heaps in a very small bag.

What kind of a place allows you to update your thesis? The thesis is what you submit in order to get your degree. The committee reads it, shreds it, you put it back together to satisfy them, they accept it, they grant you a degree. Once it's accepted, it's in the library system and out of your hands, regardless of how ashamed you may be of it three years later.

Heck- I'm still piddled off at myself for not having figured out how to make C6F5CCCO2CH3 prior to submitting the chapter on reactions of electron-deficient alkynes with a binuclear rhodium-iridium alkynyl complex. But even if I could go back and make the stuff, and do the reactions, I could publish a paper on it- but it would NOT be a revision to my thesis, or to any of the previously published papers.

I got to halfway through the introduction......threw up.

However it mentions that someone "spent countless hours retyping" or whatever with the preproduction version......

I was just wondering how bad the original original might have been?

Actually, I'd rather not wonder about it...........I've enough already....

Patriot University is a diploma mill. If you buy five doctorates you get the sixth one free.

Okay, I'm largely a stranger to academia - is it common to start one's thesis with "Hello, my name is [candidate]"?

After years of refusing to make his PhD dissertation available, "Dr." Kent Hovind's work was leaked to wikileaks (its 2.14 MB).

Let me quote from Hovind's introduction:
"Hello, my name is Kent Hovind. I am a creation/science evangelist. I live in Pensacola, Florida. I have been a high school science teacher since 1976. I've been very active in the creation/evolution controversy for quite some time."

In case you think this is a hoax, Dr. PZ Myers confirmed it is real on his pharyngula.

ETA: His dissertation advisor was Wayne Knight, who is the president of Patriot Bible University, the diploma mill that gave Hovind a "PhD."

I really AM going to read this entire thing, but first, I had to share... it won't let me copy and paste, but in the intro, he actually says "The second chapter deals with the fact that evolution is a religion and not a science, and therefore should be excluded from public school curriculum."

:eye-poppi

oh yes, and on page 11, Satan came up with evolution...

and on page 30, "the faulty teaching of evolution is hindering scientific progress"...

and on page 41, Darwin and Huxley invented racism. Bet you didn't know that.

Page 46, beliefs in evolution caused WWII... this pops up again on page 69...

Page 56, A 1980 article in Newsweek is used as a source in a doctoral dissertation. (The Enquirer may be coming up next...)

Maia, I'm not sure that amount of self inflicted abuse is well, frankly, healthy.

Still, it's your head you gotta cope with, I guess, and your bravery is to be admired...:jaw-dropp
