Sarah was born in 1964. Orly was born in 1962. In politics two years is nearly two decades. Er, as far as women are considered. :(

We used to dream of longing for a road. In our day, we slept in a field on top of an anthill and had to be up at 4am to get out of the way of the bulldozers that would come by every morning to build a road so a rich fat cat like yourself could fantasize about living there!

I think there are some blatantly racist birthers out there, but a lot are suffering from a more subtle form of prejudice they might not be aware of. I don't have the link on hand, but I remember a study showing that people viewed a select group of famous white Europeans and Canadians as "more American" than a select group of African Americans.

The name Barack Hussein Obama is undoubtably a biasing factor as well, but that's more of an anti-Muslim or xenophobic bias.

Combine the two and it's obvious that it effects people, especially the fringe right. People like Beck and Limbaugh have blatantly tried to label Obama is a racist without evidence and tried to scare people into thinking he's going to try to screw over whites at the expense of his bruthas. You'll notice many fringies also love to emphasize the Hussein in his name, because they think it's scary.

There are exactly four possible reasons for people to stick to birtherism beyond the point where Obama produced his birth certificate:

1) rabid hatred of Obama because he is black
2) rabid hatred of Obama because he is a Democrat
3) being a hardcore conspiracy nutcase
4) being completely insane

(although there might be combinations of two or more of these)

Now, simple logic tells us that (3) or (4) do not depend on who is president, and (2) would have worked just as well for Clinton.

There were more than sufficient points of attack for both Bush jr and Clinton to be the target of a Birther-like conspiracy - yet neither actually became the target of a large-scale conspiracy "movement" the way Obama did, much less a movement that is tacitly supported by the opposing party, and openly supported by the opposing side´s smear artists.

I know that Badfiction made a joke about it, which means that the birthers will probably take it up eventually.
 
Point of clarification, he would have been about 12 or 13 when it "Blazing Saddles" came out. I'm the same age as obama and the only movies out that year I remeber seeing in the theater were "the Sting (PG)," "The Towering Inferno (PG)," and "Taking of Pelham 123 (R)" I saw that last one in a drive in.
 
I'm just a bit older than Obama...I remember using a fake ID to get into Blazing Sadles myself with friends at a local mall. No big deal (though I loved the movie) however little did I know at the time that using my older brother's ID could put my citizenship and "natural" birth status into question. Very red-faced here.

Cook v. Good Update

Orly is whining that the court did not give her enough time to file her brief.

According to the court rules Orly had 40 days to file a brief after the official record was filed with the court on October 7, 2009. The court notified her of the November 16, 2009 deadline. She failed to file a brief by that deadline. In fact, she has yet to file a bireif. After 40 days, the appelees are allowed to file a motion to dismiss which they promptly did on did and which was promptly granted. Orly thinks she should have had 20 days to respond after the motion to dismiss was filed, totally neglecting her responsibility to file a timely brief with the court. She is filing a motion with the court at this time whining about how they made a mistake.
