Australia

I lived in Oakey and Toowoomba for about 20 years. My daughter is still living in the house we bought in Kearney's Springs in 1978.

Sorry, I don't fish. My dad took us fishing a number of times when we were kids, but I never really "got" it. Seemed like a lot of work for little reward. Perhaps we just weren't very good at it.
There is a reason fishing is called "fishing" and not "catching"

I never travelled that way before the bypass was built but we have detoured through there occassionally. Just a little bit prettier than the Maccas.
There used to be a truck stop on the highway that we used to stop at. Ah, those were the days!

Yeah - never got it. And although I'm so far from being a vegetarian it's not funny, I've always been squeamish about personally ending the life of other living creatures. I like eating fish, but I'll leave the catching, cleaning and gutting to someone else, thanks.

(and let's not turn this into a vegetarianism argument please)

If you know where and when to go, catching something is very likely. There are many reefs around australia where you can drop a line and get a good feed of fish. Chasing the big ones requires a lot more patience but the adrenaline when you get a hook-up is worth it.

Even when they are not biting, what can be better than being out on the sea or a billabong with your mates and a well-stocked esky? Bloody hell, I’m making myself homesick!

Well I finally got to Australia for the first time last week, and I loved it. I can't wait to get back. I was in Sydney and Katoomba.

Oh well, perhaps you'll get to somewhere decent next time (although Katoomba is OK I s'pose).

Not close to the sea where you are in Turkey? I seem to remember fishing there was almost a sure thing.

We were in Rockville for a couple of years in the early 80s.

Kewl. I lived near the corner of Bridge and Tor Streets until 1978, and I played many, many games for the Tigers at Rockville. It got so foggy up there sometimes you couldn't see the goalposts from the centre square and many a disembodied yelp used to come out of the gloom when someone got thumped behind the play while the umpire was 'somewhere over that way'.

I think I've had some of my best days when they weren't biting much. All that baiting and casting and stuff can be a bit much like work.

Sydney just goes without saying, but I'm glad you made it to Katoomba. There's some awesome views about the place, including the dining room and saloon bar at The Carrington. Hope you made that.

Did you go on that awful, hell-spawned, Aten-forsaken, demonic instrument of horror, the Skyrider? That thing should be banned for inducing heart attacks in poor old Pharaohs, although I always enjoy the Scenic Railway. Proximity to the Earth is something I like to maintain at all times unless I'm surrounded by aeroplane.

Let's hear about some of the places you saw, and I'll knock up a post about the area. I know it well and even have yarns to tell, just for a change.

Cheers,

Dave

Lismore was quite pretty the last time I drove through there about 5 years ago.

I'm quite partial to the Hinterland area around SE Qld/NE NSW
