Christians being "funny"

The forum is hilarious. People vie with each other for who can be the most 'pious'.

The best part about Landover Baptist is the hate mail. Fundies can't tell it's a parody about 75% of the time. Even when the disclaimer calls it "The Landover Baptist Parody Website" they apparently don't know what parody means.

Well, just keep in mind the OP of this thread.

And I confess: your laughter makes me want to hurl in your mouth.

I suppose that means you won't want to order the t-shirt?

Rev. Jim Osborne said:
This T-Shirt is truly great. People will often stop and ask you on the street what it's all about. You can explain to them you are a True Christian™ dedicated to helping niglets learn about Jesus. It also makes people realize you are a very tolerant, caring individual who is helping minority races. Just listen to some testimonials from some of our sponsors!

I do believe more than one of us was fooled by the Landover Baptist site when we first encountered it.

Poes law in classic form. :D

I think because so many of the real religious sites are that insane, it is particularly hard to distinguish Evangelical seriousness from satire.

Wear that shirt in a blacvk neighborhood and say bye-bye to your life.

Oy.

What a well thought, reasoned and mature response to the issue of parodied racism.

Could this be the 1st reported case of reverse Poe? Maybe it's a double Poe?

Suggestions?

Yeah, now THAT would be funny.

Yep, that's the danger of spreading the good word among savages. They haven't learned that violence isn't the appropriate response to offense. But if the good lord calls you home, there's nothing you can do and you did the best you could to spread the love of Jesus (AMEN) among the heathens.

Oh, no one is mature all the time. Certainly not you. You feel it's appropriate to laugh at mean-spirited racial jokes and broadcast your willingness to laugh at it to others in a public forum. You've earned a reaction.

But it is true that advocating violence in turn isn't cool, so for that I apologize for the remark I made that your ass getting kicked for wearing a racist tee-shirt you find funny, would be funny.

Yeah, here's a suggestion: learn that some racist comments that are posted go to such a vile extreme that, even if Poed, are unexcusable.

Some of it just isn't funny to certain groups who deal with stereotypical hate speech or violence on a day to day basis as it is. If you are Malaysian (and I'm just assuming that from one of your flags), certainly you understand this, being a minority and all.

What? Funny? Humorous?

I assure you sir, I take this SUPER-seriously.

Why are they mean spirited? It seems to be making fun of those who take a superior view of others and set out to help them with out understanding them at all more than it does poke fun at a race.

I have a suggestion too. Lighten up. It's what Jeebus would do.

In my defense, I was directed first to the forum, which appears quite real. Had I gone to the home page I think I would have discerned the parody. As for the disclaimer, you have to do some looking to find it, and when you get there, it's in micro-print and you have to bump up the type size a lot to read it.

According to Wikipedia: "The site was created by Chris Harper, who obtained his Master's Degree in English Literature from George Mason University in 1993 after being expelled from Liberty University (founded by Jerry Falwell) in 1989 for producing a satirical radio show which Liberty's administration found offensive. Harper frequently appears at atheist conventions playing the character of 'Pastor Deacon Fred Smith'." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landover_Baptist_Church

So now what do you think about it?

Wow. Falwell's group thought he was an insane nut! :boggled:

Indeed, the forum is less than obviously a parody, unless you've been to the site first.

Yeah, I can tell by your fervor in re-posting a photo of a "niglet", jokingly. After a point it no longer seems like you're just mocking a parody.
