A new article recently published in the Journal for Specialists in Pediatric Nursing explored vaccination history, vaccine safety monitoring systems in the U.S., and the two most publicized theoretical vaccine-related exposures associated with autism – the vaccine preservative thimerosal and the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. A review of published research shows that there is not convincing scientific evidence supporting a relationship between vaccines and autism.

Again. Although, the woo woos balk at the word "scientific". Evidence matters not, ideas must stand no matter how much they are shown to be baseless!!

So, did any mainstream news channels pick this story up and spread it around the way the story about kid who died from a tumor was reported to have been killed by a vaccine? I doubt it. Anyone got links to any news site/paper/etc. that reported on this continued "breaking" news?

Plus, I know many nurses will ignore this story and hang onto woo woo claims that vaccine theoretically cause harm by paying attention to the usual unreliable sources.

But you just know that certain sections of the media will still frame it in terms of, "despite continuing concerns... blah, blah... Andrew Wakefield... blah, blah... parental choice... blah, blah..."

I've lost count of the studies now reviewed and published that refute the claims, and yet claims live on via people who want to sell crap instead and don't care if they are wrong.

This is just yet another study, and yet another IGNORED study, unlike sensationalism that hits the media when someone drops dead of something completely unrelated to a vaccine.

My point is that lookit what happens when the media can accuse vaccines of death (even though it's not the case), and lookit what happens when yet another actual source refutes claims and gets ignored as usual.

The contrast is extreme and shameful.

R U suggestin' there's a link *hands on hips*
While I actually do appreciate all of your work in compiling all of these reports that we can use to fight anti-vaxxers, I have prepared the following snarky response, to add a touch of sarcastic humor into the mix:

I'm suggestin' that maybe your next thread's title should be "New Scientific Report Explains That Fire Is, in fact, Hot". Maybe that one will actually pry me away from watching the paint dry, for a few minutes.

Please forgive my rude intrusion and continue with the rest of the more important discussion.

.

Anti-vaxxers don't care about science. Oh, they will trumpet it to high heaven if it can be twisted into supporting their agenda, but that has nothing to do with them actually believing it because of science.

If you read Orac's blog, Jay Gordon, for example, has made it pretty darn clear. His anecdotal experience means more than any scientific study. He knows full well what the studies show, yet denies them because his experience is more important.

Herd immunity is needed though. They hurt more than just themselves.

My husband and I both ended up with whooping cough quite recently. The recent outbreak of that in my local area was attributed to a reduction in herd immunity.

I was speaking to a neighbour who is an anti-vaxxer, and mentioned that had all local children been vaccinated, I probably wouldn't have contracted it. She told me that it wasn't a problem, since I'm OK. I pointed out how many infants I was in contact with before I was properly diagnosed, and that whooping cough can be fatal in infants, that was a side she hadn't considered.

A lot of times anti-vaxxers only focus on what not having the vaccine may do to that one individual, they're unaware of the risks associated with not having herd immunity. As for myself, I was unaware that the whooping cough vaccine is only effective 8 years, had I known this, I would have gone to be revaccinated.

Bah. As far as I can see, the anti-vaxxers don't even care about that one individual, they only care what happens to themselves.

Good call. I just got my TDaP booster a couple of weeks ago.

And its not like any vaccine was ever 100% anyway. Sometimes they don't work, so when herd immunity is compromised by idiots who are abusing their children, sometimes the children of other parents who are taking proper precautions sicken and die.

That's another thing I like to point out. It's one thing to put yourself and your kid at risk. However, when your choices start to affect my young one and put his health at risk, then, buddy, we have a problem.

What gets me is the media pandering to the antivaxxers. My mom had heard cervarix killed some teenager (it didn't). There was barely any new follow-up that it actually wasn't the vaccine but a tumor that killed her. My mom also heard that the pandemic vaccine was untested (it's NOT).
My mom had never heard of these studies like the one I posted in the OP. I had to taker her through quite a few more links and reasonings to show her why the pandemic vaccine is not "novel" and is not "untested" and that the Cervarix vaccine didn't kill a teenager. It's soo frustrating. That is my point. The media sucks.

So, while we skeptic types know of these things, most people don't. That is truly appalling. Nobody in the media is bothering to report on them at all. I'm not a journalist, so I do what I can in hopes that linking these studies in as many places as I can that somebody like my mom comes across them somehow. They can far more easily hear that a vaccine killed a teenager and that the pandemic vaccine is untested just by listening to idiots saying so on the radio. That is where my mom heard of all this antivaccine "news", but nobody said anything to the contrary. I think news radio is even less accountable, since there is no hard copy to come back on them with later on.

What the heck does a person do to get real news on the radio to counter all the BS they let their idiotic guests prattle on about? My mom still thought the vaccine killed a teenager!

I will first point out that all 5 of my children have been vaxed to the legal requirements for school. I looked at the "evidence" against vaxing and it all seemed to come back to that ONE doctor, that ONE website, just they all traded around the quotes.

I've been a parent long enough to know that sometimes parents just "know." I've taken my kids into the doctor suspecting an ear infection and the doctor says, "Wow, this is just starting, we're catching it early." Anyone who is a parent has surely experienced something similar. Which is why I've always had trouble putting away the thousands of parents of autistic kids who are CERTAIN that the problems started only after a vax, usually MMR.

But what if?

I realize the connection of this virus and what "might" occur upon vaccination to make it appear as if the vaccine is the culprit is conjecture. This would explain how the vaccine is NOT the problem, and yet why so many parents of autistic kids are certain that it is. Plus, a vaccine for the retrovirus mentioned could save so many people from drastically reduced quality of life for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS).

And irony of all ironies, a vaccine could then be the way to prevent future vaccine related retrovirus infections that possibly are related to autism.

They hurt their innocent children.

I personally believe that failure to vaccinate ought to be grounds for being declared an unfit parent and having all parental rights terminated.
I can tell you as an American that if our government ever tried to institute such a policy, there'd be mass hysteria. Older folks might remember the ruckus about fluoride back in the 50s.

Those trying to improve public health are viewed with great suspicion here. They're the socialists, the communists who'll steal our freedoms away in the black of the night. Meanwhile, the parts of our government that do pose a threat to our freedoms *coughCIAcough* are given a free pass.
