Merged Swine Flu Shot Not Like Eating a Hot Dog

Another "Quack" like Dr Blaylock , neurosurgeon, on D3 for swine flu and the immune system:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8tK0n18Als

Yep; you can just Tell he's a quack too.....
This guy is full of crap. He's slick, but he is not giving accurate information. I know what he is saying is unsupported by the scientific research because I looked at the vitamin D claim extensively only a couple months ago.

The vitamin D claim is not backed up by research. It is currently only an hypothesis to explain why influenza epidemics occur in winter. But then why is there influenza in the tropics? Why are there influenza outbreaks on cruise ships in the summer? The latest pandemic emerged in Mexico first. There is no shortage of Sun in Mexico and besides, the pandemic emerged in April! It spread in the northern hemisphere in summer!

In addition, a severe deficiency in vitamin D affects the immune system but that does not mean excessive vitamin D improves the immune system. Nor does it mean everyone is vitamin D deficient in the winter.

The hypothesis about vitamin D is interesting. But this idiot claiming it is a fact demonstrates his ignorance. And saying we don't get colds in the summer? Yes, people do. Quite often, actually.

Fall outbreaks of upper respiratory infections begin like clockwork, exactly when schools go back in session. Gee, what a surprise.

Why influenza epidemics in particular are more frequent in winter rather than the fall is not clear. It may be much more important that people are confined indoors with each other than even the more common hypothesis that the virus is more stable on surfaces in the winter. A very small study of an outbreak of the 2009H1N1 flu in a tour group found face to face contact with the index case was the most important risk factor. Only one person who sat near the index case on a plane got infected and of all the people on the tour bus, the people who contracted the infection remembered talking to the index person, while others on the same bus who did not recall face to face conversations did not get sick.

That's Dr. Donald C. Miller, a cardiac surgeon at the University of Washington Health Centre. He used to be sane but for several years now has been catering to the anti-vax whacko brigade with submissions to vanity presses and he's a whale.to fave. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

I believe that's quack Dr John Cannell. Boy; there must be people with seven M.D.'s and nine Ph.d's on this board! No wonder you're skeptical with those credentials! I'm impressed, frankly. :)

I know of at least 5 MDs and over a dozen PhDs on this board. Credentials do not impress us. Evidence on the other hand does.

OM FSM, I didn't recognize him. Miller's really a whacko. We've discussed his website here before. He bought every sCAM conspiracy theory ever thought up. And they still let him teach. The UW replied to my inquiry that they were reluctant to interfere with free speech. In other words, evidence based medicine is not important enough to stand up for if you might get sued trying to get rid of a tenured professor.

Scroll down Miller's website for a summary of every crazy medical idea currently in vogue. Why someone with a background such as Miller's would adopt every unsupportable quack medicine idea out there makes you wonder where along the way he decided the medicine he practices is evil. Perhaps he got annoyed when medicine evolved into a science from an art.

I see Dr M has added politics to his page and a lot more railing against evidence based medicine. I'm curious to read about his view of Palin and I suspect the anti-science rant has to do with him getting more and more flack about his lack of practicing evidence based medicine. Maybe some of us in this county are having an impact after all. :)

Edited to add after reading Miller's Palin piece: It's getting much clearer now. Miller is totally over the hill anti-government. That correlates with my impression he was totally anti-science as well. I suppose he thinks God is really curing people, not modern medicine. How scary to have someone like that operating on people's hearts and teaching med students.

You're right. It isn't Miller.

John Jacob Cannell MD

Cannell is fixated on the, vitamin D cures all, branch of medicine. Quite different from the anti-science/government conspiracy theorist that Miller is.

I read Cannell's stuff when I was looking at the vitamin D prevents influenza claims. Cannell is pretty much responsible for the hypothesis. But again, he's made the mistake of drawing the conclusion without ever testing the idea.

Blaylock is a crackpot. He used to claim he was on the faculty of the medical school at the University of Mississippi. Then some of us did some research and found out that not only was he not associated with Ole Miss, but he did not even have the name of the school right. Someone contacted the university, and the affiliation was dropped from his website. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Russell_Blaylock (that is not me, as I said there were a few of us).

He may have been a real doctor a long time ago before he retired, but he was never a toxiologist nor virologist nor any type of specialist that would qualify him to write the stuff he does. He does, however, sell supplements.

Cheers HCN

TBH, I'd never heard of squalene before this thread and I was curious as to whether deranged had actually written that information, so I went agoogling to find out what "this was all about". Lo and behold, when I searched a few character strings up popped Blaylock's name

When I searched the term squalene, I was presented with the usual suspects that I cited upthread....and this article.... which is the type of thing I like reading on topics like this.

I'm not hearing much in the way of anti-vax hysteria out there IRL, but it sure seems to be flying around the 'net. Maybe it's like AGW denial where people are prone to keep their opinions to themselves for fear of ridicule.

Troups Injected with Untested Swine Vaccine

As a sweeping generalization leading to a definitely false conclusion, at least in it's necessity, this just can't be beat.

I've got to really doubt you know what you are talking about when you tell me to ignore a tested regime for some other wonder drugs. How, exactly, will these overcome the flu virus, particularly if they are taken orally? How were they tested for that effect? What data do you have?

Oh, my bad, I mixed my quacks and charlatans up. Dr. John Cannell coincidentally runs the 'Vitamin D Council' and, shock, sells vitamin D supplements. And to correct another error, that's Donald W. Miller, Jr.

What Squalene Does to Rats and Humans

I read the Swine Flu insert a week ago after someone on my Facebook was posting a bunch of ridiculous claims about it. If I remember correctly, all data presented was not specifically from studies with the swine flu vaccine, but from studies done with other season flu vaccines since 1998 (or something like that). So, if it hasn't been particularly problematic in the past 10 years, I don't see the point in freaking out about it now,

Also, Guillian-Barre Syndrome was not shown to be caused by the swine flu vaccine (because, as I said, they didn't specifically study it). Rather, it mentioned that people seemed to have an increased risk of Guillian-Barre during the 1974 flu vaccines, but subsequent tests have shown no connection.

What Squalene Does to Rats

Oil-based vaccination adjuvants like squalene have been proved to generate concentrated, unremitting immune responses over long periods of time.[vi]

A 2000 study published in the American Journal of Pathology demonstrated a single injection of the adjuvant squalene into rats triggered “chronic, immune-mediated joint-specific inflammation,” also known as rheumatoid arthritis.[vii]

The researchers concluded the study raised questions about the role of adjuvants in chronic inflammatory diseases.

What Squalene Does to Humans

Your immune system recognizes squalene as an Oil molecule native to your body. It is found throughout your nervous system and brain. In fact, you can consume squalene in olive Oil and not only will your immune system recognize it, you will also reap the benefits of its antioxidant properties.

***The difference between “good” and “bad” squalene is the route by which it enters your body. Injection is an abnormal route of entry which incites your immune system to attack all the squalene in your body, not just the vaccine adjuvant.

Your immune system will attempt to destroy the molecule wherever it finds it, including in places where it occurs naturally, and where it is vital to the health of your nervous system.[viii]

Gulf War veterans with Gulf War Syndrome (GWS) received anthrax vaccines which contained squalene.[ix] MF59 (the Novartis squalene adjuvant) was an unapproved ingredient in experimental anthrax vaccines and has since been linked to the devastating autoimmune diseases suffered by countless Gulf War vets.[x]

The Department of Defense made every attempt to deny that squalene was indeed an added contaminant in the anthrax vaccine administered to Persian Gulf war military personnel – deployed and non-deployed – as well as participants in the more recent Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program (AVIP).
Is it possible that we can't trust the Dept of Defense? No...that can't be true! Surely we can trust the government! They're looking after our welfare, right? Or could it be they're in bed with the FDA??

Umm, yeah, cuz only FDA says it is safe.. SAYS, yep, they didn't look at the studies done at all, they jest SAY it is safe, so why bother with the testing phase and the decades long safety records and the fact that H1N1 has killed a bunch of people and could kill more if it were left to just mutate at will in all the unvaccinated people.

Doctors??? Where?

Didn't we just establish that the vaccine doesn't contain squalene, or at least not in sufficient amounts to do any harm? As I stated earlier in this thread, by this reasoning tomatoes are harmful because they contain methanol.

This is when one of those doctors you hate so much shows up to tell you it wasn't the squalene that gave them GWS...

Oh, good. If the FDA says it's safe, then it's safe. (lots of doctors on here....no question about it....)
Conspiracy theories fielded in 3... 2...

That was suppose to be a rebuttal?

I tore you argument that it was "untested" to shreds, you could at least thank me for showing you how completely and utterly false your claim was.

This fella seems to have some weird fascination with squalene. Notice the lack of citation...AGAIN.

Citations are most appreciated but I found this one anyway (American Journal of Pathology. 2000;156:2057-2065) and a rather important parameter of the study includes:
One strategy to unravel the pathogenesis of SIA is to identify the disease-associated genes, and therefore, an initial genetic analysis was performed. First, there was a significant female preponderance in DA.1H rats, and only females were affected in the few cases where SIA developed in LEW.1AV1 and LEW.1F rats. In contrast, there was no gender dimorphism in the DA strain. It is possible that these extraordinarily arthritis-prone rats harbor a collection of homozygous susceptibility alleles that override the effects of sex, possibly sex hormones, on the immune system, as previously suggested in the NZB/W model system for lupus nephritis.32 Second, an influence of MHC genes was demonstrated by the higher susceptibility of DA rats compared to DA.1H rats, ie, DA rats with a different MHC haplotype (RT1h instead of RT1av1).
In short, highly arthritis-susceptible rat strains were used and arthritis was just transient in some (<1 day) or didn't exhibit at all.

This is all just Mercola twaddle.

For about the third time: With regard to the 2009 Influenza vaccines, it really doesn't matter one way or the other, because the FDA -- the regulatory agency which licenses vaccines for the U.S. -- has not licensed ANY influenza vaccine for the 2009-2010 season which contains squalene or any other adjuvant, and has no plans to do so.
