Dog consumption

You mean "wild animals" like cows and pigs?

Sounds like your hypocrisy is showing.

Nah, I don't think it's hypocrisy--not consciously, anyway. It's more like naivete. makaya has bought into the romanticizing of dogs (for perfectly good reason--I love the critters, myself), and hasn't really thought through the fact that dogs are animals.

I just want different cultures to look at this from a sympathetic way. Millions of dogs are consumed YEARLY, yet that is acceptable to some, which boggles my mind

...snip...

How many million pigs are consumed a year?

...snip...
How on earth can you not get upset and crushed over seeing this kind of abuse?

Which abuse? Your photos just showed some slaughtered (and cooked) dogs?

He's ready to condemn people for slaughtering and eating dogs but not himself for eating cows or pigs (which he wrongly thinks are "wild animals").

I think it's the epitome of hypocrisy.

Pretty much everything is "meat", I should think. Should India start a war with us over our consumption of cow

Who owns Cows as Pets?! Really, I mean come on! Dogs are likely the most common pet a human can have, and nobody is doing anything to prevent slaughtering of them?

Designating an animal as a pet does not make it suddenly inedible. As long as a thing is edible, humans somewhere will eat it.

Do you think images of feed lots, veal pens, and commercial slaughter houses aren't as upsetting? If not, why not? How about considering those images from the point of view of a vegetarian, or the people in India?

The only distinction you've made is the false one that it's OK to eat wild animals but not domesticated animals. In fact, the vast majority of meat you consume is from domesticated animals.

How upset and crushed are you over hamburgers?

Only Indians forbird the consumption of Cow because of...a delusion..cough..i mean Religion. There are many countries that speak out against the consumption of dogs, not cows. Only India is speaking out on Cows, which are consumed by people all across the world.

Consumption is one thing, but do you even realize the incredible amount of Dog's killed for consumption? Up to 15 million...YEARLY.

People have pet cows, horses, pigs and even alligators.

Perhaps you could explain why you think dogs should not be used as a food source?

Is that all? In the UK alone we consume over 855 million chickens a year and something like 10 million pigs.

Do you know about a little, sparsely-populated country called India?

Also, see my earlier post about the fact that a stark line separating food animals from pet animals is not such a universal thing. Your outrage is nothing more than cultural bigotry and hypocrisy.

So it's only immoral above a certain quantity? In that case, it's much more immoral eating the domesticated animals you eat (cows, pigs, chickens) because they are slaughtered for food in MUCH greater numbers.

The point is that you are drawing a completely arbitrary distinction between two domesticated animals; one is ok to kill and eat, and one gets moral outrage.

Why?

Consumption is one thing, but do you even realize the incredible amount of Dog's killed for consumption? Up to 15 million...YEARLY.

If it were 10 million, would it change the point? It's not like people's pets are being stolen and eaten.

You can not compare Cows and Pigs with Dogs: Here's why

1. Many people across the world have dogs as pets. It is not limited to the US

2. Besides India, what other nation forbids cow meat? Huh? What purpose do cows serve as pets? Do they do tricks? Companionship? Affection?

Not only do we disagree with dog consumption, many other nations do to
So do you suggest we decide the matter by vote since there is disagreement, or do you just think your opinion should be imposed on the world?

I say let's try the vote--India's population is around 1.15 billion (the U.S. is close to 300 million, and not all of us share your outrage).
