The Gympie Pyramids

The ancient Egyptian hieroglyph for a Pyramid is Δ

The Greek letter Δ means 'delta'.

Gympie is located near the delta of the Mary River.

Isn't it obvious?

From the website of TheGympiePyramid.org (well, they should know)

What is it?

The Gympie Pyramid is a terraced hill on the outskirts of Gympie in South East Queensland. It purportedly had stone structures on it, built before modern European settlement. It has been shrouded in mystery and controversy ever since.

OK, so they don't know after all. What a mob of wankers.

Who built it?

To this day, nobody really knows. There have been many theories, from Phoenicians to the Spanish, and from Aliens to modern Italian Winemakers.
An in depth look at all facets of this intriguing story is available on Brett Green's CD e-book: "The Gympie Pyramid Mysteries". [link redacted] Hopefully, our ongoing research might just determine the answer to this perplexing question . . .

I guess we can all see what's really going on here, can't we? Surprisingly, our enterprising CD flogger has actually included the winning answer in his list of "theories". Can anyone spot it?

What is happening with it?

In May 2005 the property on which the Gympie Pyramid is situated, was purchased by a friend of the Dhamurian Society, with the purpose of investigating this enigmatic site fully.
With the purpose of rooking innocent tourists.

The area will undergo thorough testing using various methods.
We will look at ways of passing this rubbish off as archæology.

The Dhamurian Society currently has among it's members and associates, Geologists, Archaeologists, Geo-Physicists and many talented researchers.
I'm not even going to bother looking up who these whackos are. My scientific rigour is having a flaccid moment.

It is hoped that an in depth investigation will shed some light on this mysterious site, and perhaps give some answers to the questions of who built it and why.
That's actually the last thing they want, because the answer is as boring as hell and won't work as a con. Hence the barbed-wire fences and "No Trespassing" signs.

I may have added some bits to the above quote.

So, would we like to see some photos of this amazing edifice? Please adjust your amazement susceptibility to 'maximum' before proceeding.

Just like being at Giza, isn't it? There are carved staues and sphynxes and all manner of other things too, if you ask the right people. Here's a linky to a site with some pictures of bogus carved snakes and other assorted furphies. I especially like the pic of the Phoenicians having a weekend on the beach at Noosa. Go them!

Who's up for some facts?

Firstly, here's the Wikipedia summation:

The Gympie Pyramid is a terraced structure located in the outskirts of Gympie in Queensland, Australia. It has been proven to be an Italian farmer's construction to stop erosion.

Here is the source of that information:

Doctor Anthony G Wheeler

Lecturer - Central Queensland University, Mackay Campus

This is a link to his email address.

Here's what he says in "In Quest of Australia's Lost Pyramids", Omega Science Digest, p. 22, November/December 1985.

What are we left with? The facts are (probably) that the Gympie 'Golden' pyramid is actually an ordinary hill terraced by early Italian immigrants for viniculture that has been disfigured by erosion and the removal of stone from the retaining walls for use elsewhere; the stone wall around Gympie's Surface Hill Uniting Church is exactly what the Rev Mr Geddes says it is -- a wall made from irregular, freshly quarried stone. The 'Gympie Ape/Iron Man' statue was carved by a Chinese gold prospector and later abandoned. The sun symbol and snakes were carved quite recently. The prickly pear was introduced to Australia by early settlers journeying via South America. As for all the supporting statements by the various authorities, all but a few unimportant ones fade away as one after another proves to be a misquote, a falsification or an outright fabrication.
My bolding.

I've been to this place several times myself, well before these Lemurian dingbats, and I can describe it pretty well, if anyone has any further questions.

It's just nothing though, really.

Cheers,

Δave

"Shrouded in mystery" is a blank cheque cashable for any kind of malarkey you feel inclined to.

I have to question Akhenaten's motivation for attempting to debunk clearly what is the most dramatic pyramid find in the history of the world. Maybe our resident pharaoh is concerned with falling tourist revenue at those second rate piles of stone at Giza?

Seriously? That's the whole of Gympie Pyramid?

How mysterious and shrouded in the mists of time. (Not!) Well, I'll scratch it off the list of things that must be seen when I get to the Southern Hemisphere.

And in other news, it'll be quieter without Old Bob... who's going to fill up the thread with silly things for Akhenaten to debunk?

Yikes! Skellingtons! Why don't they just throw all the dedduns into Mokuaweoweo?

ETA: By the way, how come I haven't been ripped into about that Yowie post further up the page? You peeps aren't starting to believe everything I say are you? That would be silly.

Hey i got asked a strange question today. Apparently it is believed that aborginals were able to converse over great distances using the wind to carry their voices. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Akhenaten, it's because we know Yowies aren't real.

I was going to comment that having a statue in recognition of the accomplishments of a non-existent creature is a bit weird, but never mind. I can think of about a gazillion examples.

Or asked what their valuable contribution that must be recognized was.

Okay, I musta been asleep when I read the post.

Sounds like somebody is getting mixed up with the use of a bullroarer.

I've never heard of this "wind talking" though. The cynic in me says "Nup", although he always says that. I'll have a looky into it, but I think all we'll end up with is a post about bullroarers. (which aren't unique to Australia by any means. The ancient Greeks used them)

Cheers,

But, but . . . yeah, well OK. Debunked already. Bummer. ;)

Yeah, it's just for tourists. The town used to be an important timber town, but not so much any more so tourism to the area is an important earner.

If there wasn't a Yowie legend then nobody would have ever heard of Kilcoy, especially in Hawaii.

Okay, I musta been asleep when I read the post.

Nah, I put a Spell of Credulity™ on it when it was posted. I guess it must have worn off.

Cheers Mate, and thanks for being here We'll keep this thing going all by ourselves if we have to.

Dave.

PS I'll slip a post in about Bunyips soon. That'll suck someone in for sure. ;)

Yeah thats pretty much what I said as well. However not being an expert on Aborginal myths and legends, I thought it may have just been something I'd not heard of
