Tennessee farmer making ethanol from kudsu

At least one farmer in tennessee is making "moonshine" from kudsu and is selling the ethanol as fuel. He's able to sell as much as he makes and its going into engines not stomachs.

Hopefully this will catch on and make a few farmers rich.
 
I've wondered out loud many times why there is no Kudzu Vodka. Kudzu has massive tubers that are a great source of starch.

I wonder what he's using to cook the kudzu mash? Propane?
 
Perhaps he's using the ethanol?

:) That'd be a neat trick: harvest kudzu, distill it into ethanol, and use the ethanol to distill more kudzu and still have ethanol left over to sell as a biofuel.

It would at least have the benefit of using LOTS of kudzu.

Of course, the second concern is harvesting the stuff. Its a thick, heavy vine. even if they planted it in fields I'm not sure what equipment they'd use to harvest it. And, all the zillions of acres already covered with kudzu are far from flat.

If there is a way to harvest all the existing kudzu and economically turn it into a biofuel then I'm all for it. I'm not sure I'd want farmers to start replacing other staple crops with kudzu, though.
 
My experience with kudzu is a religious one,

it almost makes me believe in the devil.:)
 
From what I've heard about Kudzu, this guy deserves the Congressional Medal of Honour.
