Archeologly proves the Bible?

Then why are you accusing Christians of being crazy?

It is said in scripture that God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and I have to tell you this is what I am seeing. Jesus himself says if people do not change and become like little children we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven, so what's holding you back from simplifying your life? I'll choose a life of faith over anything else this world may try to offer me, because I know this world cannot satisfy me. Only God can satisfy me, and the promise of a new heaven and earth keep me going.

As for the archaeology proof, well there is some, but you know it's old news that either you receive as truth or you deny because you don't want to believe it's true. If you need proof for the Bible's validity there is much more than just archaeology proof available.

Kathy. I wish you and DOC would get the message. DON"T PREACH. This is not a Christian Forum. It is a Forum for Skeptics and is meant to be for people who question Religion. As far as the Bible is concerned there is NO proof of it's validity. In fact it's pages show the opposite with all it's contradictions. The Evangalists did not agree with their accounts of the life of Jesus.

Stop being like Rev. Biblethumper here:

No, no there is not.

Which brings up one more reason KK is underqualified to proselytize on this board.

Twice I asked for her source for this alleged archeological proof and no citation was provided.

KK, are you talking about "The Archeology Bible" by William Stephens or
"The Archaeological Study Bible: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture" by Walter C. Kaiser, Jr. ?

You sound exactly like my 40 year old daughter. Problem is she's schizophrenic. I'm at this moment for the hundreth time trying to convince her to take her medication instead of relying on the lard to make her better.
What do you do? Ignore an archaelogy find if it doesn't agree with the babble, but embrace it if does? Archaelogy has as yet not proved a single episode as writen in the babble.

Okay, we've been over this before, but let me point it out again. There are two possible time periods for the Exodus and the Book of Joshua. One is ca. 1450. The other is ca. 1200. The 1450 date is based on 1 Kings 6:1:

In the four hundred and eightieth year after the people of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build the house of the LORD.

To the degree that Solomon can be considered historical, he is thought to have begun to rule Israel betweeen 965 and 961. So a date of ca. 960 would be reasonable for his fourth year. An exodus 480 years earlier would be ca. 1440.

The problems with such a date are manifold. First, there should have been a sudden downturn in Egyptian power occasioned by the many plagues, followed by the destruction of the Egyptian army in the Red Sea. Second, there should be archaeological evidence of widespraed destruction of the cities of Canaan as a result of Joshua's conquest ca. 1400. Finally, there should be no Egyptian presence in the Levant from this period until the invasion by Shishak (probably Pharaoh Soshenq, founder of the 22nd. Dynasty) ca. 925. The books of Judges and 1 Samuel list a host of invaders troubling israel during the time before David became king. These include Ishmaelites (Arabs), Midianites, Moabites, Ammonites and Philistines. However, no mention is made of incursions by either the Egyptians or the Hittites.

In point of fact, there was an upturn of Egyptian power starting with the expulsion of the Hyksos and the founding of the New Kingdom by Pharaoh Ahmose I (1570 - 1546) and continuing unbroken to the reign of Akhenaten (1350 - 1334). Under Akhenaten and during the intrregnum following the death of his son Tutankhamun (died 1325) there were Hittite incursions into Syria and the Levant. These were ended when Ramesses II fought the Hittites to a stand-still in the rather muddled battle of Kadesh and re-established Egyptian power in the Levant. There was some weakening of Egyptian power following the death of Ramesses II in 1212; and his son Merneptah (1212 - 1202) had to lead a campaign into Canaan to subdue the peoples there. Egyptian power declined after that, but had a last hurrah under Ramesses III (1182 -1151).

Both history and archaeology tell us that there was a strong Egyptian presence in the Levant from ca. 1480 - ca. 1200, with a brief revival ca. 1180 - 1150. The only widespread destruction of Canaanite cities occurs ca. 1480, and is associated with the invasion of Canaan by Pharaoh Tuthmosis III, who died in 1450. Since none of this fits a scenario of the destruction of Egyptian power and the subsequent permenant absence of Egyptian influence in the Levant until Shoshenq's invasion ca. 925, the biblical date of the Exodus 480 years before the reign of Solomon has been largely discarded.

That leaves us with an Exodus ca. 1200 - 1100, when the Bronze Age power structure was collapsing, Egyptian power was waining, and the region of Canaan was in a state of flux. We also have Merneptah's victory stele ca. 1200, with its mention of a people called Israel among those defeated by Pharaoh Merneptah. Since Israel is already in Canaan according to Merneptah's stela, some have surmised that Ramesses II was the pharaoh of the Exodus - a view made indelible by Yul Brenner's protrayal of him in Cecil B. De Mille's "The Ten Commandments." However, the same problems that plague the 1450 date dog the ca. 1200 Exodus as well. First, there is no evidence of sudden collapse of Egyptian power. In fact, despite erosion of that power, we have revivals of it under Merneptah and Ramesses III. We have archaeological evidence of Egyptian military presence in the Levant under Ramesses III (died 1151). We also have either no evidence of some of the walled cities mentioned in the Book of Joshua or, of those that did exist ca. 1200, no evidence of their destruction at that time.

Thus, when it comes to archaeological or historical support for the Exodus and Conquest narratives of the Bible, there is none. So, Kathy, what is your archaeological evidence to support these biblical narratives?

Then why are you accusing Christians of being crazy?

We're not. Just you.

I really, really hope that you're intelligent enough to see the idiocy of this statement.

No, there isn't. You have said this repeatedly, but failed to provide a single link to a legitimate source.

I know this is nitpicking, but when did "archaeology" become an adjective? Also, I think we're all still waiting for this archeological proof or any other kind of proof.

This is what I strongly object to: giving kids material like this well before they can even READ and telling them the stories are true and really happened. In that case why is Santa Claus not true. Very young kids will believe anything their parents tell them. Look how long before they realise there is no Santa.

In the case of bible stories, they are so ingrained into their little brains that, by the time they get to school and start to be taught science and about evoultion, they don't know what to believe.

Richard Dawkins is right about what he said about brainwashing little children into this crap.

Kathy, we're still waiting for specific proofs. I recently devoted a fairly lengthy post to explaining that archaeology and history do not support the Exodus and Conquest narratives of the Bible. We also do not have any evidence for the united kingdom of Israel and Judah under David and Solomon or any support for Solomon's power and glory. We do have the Tel Dan inscription, probably made by Hazael, prince of Damascus ca. 850, referring to the "king of the House of David," mentioned along with the king of Israel. However, what were thought to be the palace and royal stables of Solomon turned out to be those of King Ahab.

While it is still possible that there was a tenuous union of the northern and southern kingdom under David, and such a state existing for a brief time is not implausible, we simply have neither corroborating records from foriegn powers or any other archaeological support for it. What seems to have happened is that the tribal league of the worshippers of Yahweh managed to coalesce into two kingdoms. The Davidic claim to having ruled both may have been made in the wake of the destruction of the northern kingdom by the Assyrians in 722, or it coud have been made earlier but still have been an empy boast.

Seconded. There is no evidence that Israel as described in the bible ever was a great power. Many other people around that territory and time left evidence of their existence. The Hebrews, or Israel left very little.

Well there is enough archaeological evidence concerning the truth of the bible for this Christian to make 94 posts in this thread.

To quote someone much more smarter than you:

Well my 94 posts in this thread are out there. That's the great thing about this kind of debate over a live oral debate -- there is a trail one can follow if one chooses to ignore the attacks on the messenger.

I started late though in this thread with my first post not coming until post # 46:

Hang on, isn't this the same argument from popularity (no, I can't think of the neat latin name of it at the moment) that was ripped to shreds on the other thread? A 911 truther can cut and paste garbage 100 times, I can rephrase rebuttals 1000 times, a homeopath can put their fingers in their ears and shout the merits of their woo for days on end...so what? The loudest, longest, most often arguer does not by definition have the more valid argument, they're just louder, more stubbon or more prolific. Prolific trolls are still trolls (and no, I did NOT call you a troll).

Yes, you've made 94 posts on this thread, and thousands on others. And all of your points have repeatedly been torn to shreds. DOC, it's been pointed out to you many times before, by many people before: your post *count* means nothing. What matters is your post *content*. And your post content has been, and continues to be, worthless.

And when you take out the posts where you talk about how many posts you've made, how many does that leave?

Look at the OP. Your "message" has nothing to do with anything with archeology.
