Anybody think there are Aliens (UFO)?

I hate using Youtube as an argument but I could not put it better than Tyson does here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfAzaDyae-k

I also find it amusing that the National UFO reporting center is complaining about TOO MANY UFO reports. Peter Davenport is whining that most reports he is receiving turn out to be IFOS and he can't believe that these "witnesses" are making such simple mistakes. Apparently, it is taking too much of his time to handle all these reports, which, he claims, are masking the true "UFOs" (I guess he has not figured out that U = Unidentified), which are alien spaceships. Read all about it here:

It has always been my observation that there are UFO cases that have not be satisfactorily explained. Some have had explanations offerred but, unless additional evidence is presented, they can not be accepted. That being said, these proposed explanations appear to be far more likely than alien spaceships.

Does intelligent life exist elsewhere in the multiverse? yes absolutely.

Has any of that life visited here in our recorded history? I'd like to think that it has, and does.

Curiosity is a prerequisite for an advanced civilisation. You can't go inventing stuff unless you have a desire to know how things work.

So I think it's safe to assume that a n other civilisation would be as curious as we are as to other potential life "out there". I recently watched a BBC Horizon program about the search for potential life bearing planets. It's pretty amazing to learn about how planets orbiting distant stars are discovered, and the lengths astronomers have to go to to find them.

The thing is a n other civilisation thats at a similar level of technology to us, and so might be interested in visiting, is highly unlikely to even notice we are here, much less have the means to visit, and a civilisation thats advanced enough to find us and get here probably wouldn't find us worth spending all that much time on, or studying much beyond the way we might study rats in a laboratory.

I'd like to think we are important enough to get visits from aliens, but it probably just isn't so.

There certainly is no evidence that stands up to any scrutiny at the moment that aliens have been here.

Again - you cannot logically use "we don't know" as a reason for knowing! It's absurd!

Yes, that's the "Argument From Ignorance" fallacy Tyson points out in the YT video provided by Astrophtographer above. That's the absurdity of many cult UFO enthusiasts, drawing certainties from ignorance.

A UFO is, by definition, unidentified. You can't then turn around and say that just because you don't know what it is, you know that it's an alien spacecraft!

This is a pet annoyance of mine as well.
I really hate it when people assume...

UFO = ALIEN SPACECRAFT

When in reality...

UFO = WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?????

ETA:
Anything identified as an alien spacecraft is, by definition, not a UFO.

When looking up at the night sky, I occasionally see a small star-like dot slowly making its way across the heavens. I even manage to catch them, from time to time, zipping across the eye-piece of my telescope.

I could conclude that it's the celestial teapot, but it's probably just a satellite.

I know for sure that there are aliens because I saw one myself,
of course many people have said that I am crazy.

A Common Theme

two definitions of arrogance

1) Looking at the vastness of space and the multitude of planets and possibilities, to believe and presume we are alone.

2) Since that would be arrogant, we can deduce there IS life out there, and they're so interested is US they'll invent insane physics-defying technology to cross the vastness and come to US and check US out, or eat US, or steal OUR minerals, or teach US how to live in global harmony, and make OUR little lives more meaningful.

Which is more arrogant, the empty or effectively empty space meme, or thegeocentric/anthropocentric gods of space in love with us mortals meme?

land out in the country beside some guy who no-one's going to believe and strut up and down wearing silly antennae on your head making "beep beep" noises?

Aliens have teenagers too.

Well, if you could show me one that isn't a blob...

You really can't seem to make up your mind Art. Which is it?

1) Blob?

2) Creature wearing silly antenna going beep beep?

:D

ETA: Just realised that you only said they were PHOTOS of blobs - so I guess it's option 2 then.

Teenage Daleks: xtermin8 xtermin8 xtermin8

"Xangkark, you probe that anus this instant!"
"What am I, your slave? I hate you! I didn't ask to be endospawned!"

Ashles you made me laugh so hard I almost choked

I would not be surprised if some UFO'S are misunderstood forms of natural phenomena, such as plasma vortices, Ball lightning, etc.
