Obama: Kanye West is a jackass

So, is this really news? Does anyone think it was inappropriate for Obama to call him a jackass, even "off the record"?

Nah. It would have been inappropriate if Obama had made this is a public statement, but as he didn't, it wasn't.

This is "news for newsmen" in that the actual case is that a journalist made a verbatim quote of something said off the record.

Really? I think Obama has the right to call a jackass a jackass.

I think it would have been mildly inappropriate, but nothing to write home about. Mostly, because I think a president, and other functionaries and officals, should be careful about discussing person rather case.

No argument, of course, but I really don't think the POTUS should spend time commenting on such nonsense.

Not publicly, no. A President should not publicly insult a private citizen like that. But he was not talking on the record, and the recording shouldn't have been released by ABC (or whichever network it was).

EDIT: And I see my point has already been made.

Just wait for Obama's next Presidential inauguration ceremony.

He is a jackass, and I think Obama's well within his rights to hold an opinion on whoever he wants and voice it. Why shouldn't he?

And more importantly, how will this by spun by Beck, Hannity and the rest of the right wing noise machine to make him look like a bad guy?
and Obama was right kanye was a complete, total and utter jackass.

Good morning.
I think the real issue here is that the comment was made "off the record" and that it was still reported. I wonder how that will effect future interviews with that particular news network? I can't blame the President for making the comment at all as it seems to be quite accurate. I also can understand why he would want it to be "off the record".

I think he wanted if off the record because his jackass statement was meant as his personal opinion and an official position.

No argument, of course, but I really don't think the POTUS should spend time commenting on such nonsense.

It was pre-interview banter, not part of prepared remarks or even official comments to a real question. It was supposed to be "off the record' since the interview hadn't actually started yet.

I agree with everyone else who's replied to this.

He didn't give an opinion as PotUS, but as Barry. Now, if his private opinion as Barry had been: "Yeah, that brutha sure showed that white biotch", then surely Barry's opinion should have been broadcast (would you disagree?) But in fact he said that KW was a jackass, and that may or may not have been in the public interest to share with the world, but it was an opinion that he gave privately as Barry and not as the PotUS.

It's not like he called a press conference.

If West was up on Criminal charges you might have a point, but Obama has a perfect right to blast somebody for bad behavior.

I might add that I'd not heard of Kayne West until this thread came up, but I hope that no-one will call me an Obamaniac if I say that KW is a huge jacky jackassian ass.

I feel that Obama's language was most presidential, given the enormous assish jackassery of this assy jackish jackass. Stop me if I'm being too partisan.

Asinine jackose donkey.

Have we reached the point where jackass is considered an inappropriate epithet? I can't imagine why. I may criticize President Obama for some things, but this isn't one of them.

I think it's good that your President is able to say things like that - to call a jackass a jackass. It's good that he can have a beer with a black professor and a trigger-happy cop. That he can order Colbert's head shaved. It makes him more a real human being and less the product of a political machine.

I just wish more Americans could see that.

You must be referring to some other Suds Summit than the one that had POTUS Obama, VP Biden, Gates and Crowley.

Kanye's reputation as a jackass didn't require the imprimatur of POTUS Obama, but kudos to POTUS Obama for telling it like it is.

I just figured it out. This is how it will be spun:

/Glenn Beck (or Hannity or Limbaugh or whoever) rant on

See folks, here is an example of what I'm talking about. Obama is clearly a racist, Marxist, Fascist, Communist, Nazi, but he wants all of us to believe he's just a regular guy. So how does he do this? Kanye has been in the news and everyone thinks he's a jackass. He also upstaged a very young white girl, so somehow Obama needs to figure out how to use this to his nefarious advantage.

However, he knows he just can't come right out and say something about it because then it will look like he is just using it to get people to stop thinking he's a racist commie that we all know he is.

So what does he do? He waits for an "off the record moment", and then calls Kanye a jackass, probably by a planted question to one of the MSM that is in the tank for him and no doubt a communist minion, and this comment is then "leaked" to the wider world. ABC, obviously under communist domination, quickly apologizes for letting his comment "leak", absolving Obama of any clear intent to ingratiate himself to all of us white folks that he clearly despises so much. Thus, in one fell swoop he tries to show he's just a regular guy and NOT a racist to boot!

Its brilliant! The man is a psycho-warfare genius!!! Be afraid, be very afraid!! ELEVENTY!!11! Hide your women and your guns!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

(And did I mention he's a Marxist-Fascist?)

/rant off

Ok, I have to stop now, I'm scaring myself.

Personally, I aspire to the day the President of the United States of America calls me a jackass.

Though I don't think I can possibly live up to standards set by Mr. West.
