Is This Country Going Nuts?

The country is no less sane now than before. We did, after all, manage to overcome centuries of racism to elect a president of African ancestry.

It's just that now the drooling nutjobs have so much affirmation of their whackadoodlery that they feel it is perfectly okay to act like savages.

"Rush thought it was a good idea."

Michael Medved speaks often of a cultural war going on in this country. Well, he is right. He and the other shrieking morons of right-wing radio are waging a very effective campaign against civilized conduct in politics.

Sooner or later, though, I think the grown-ups will put these unruly brats in their places.

Franken and Frank are doing a pretty good job now. I hope the other Democrats take a clue.
 
Has the popular election of an African-American to the presidency driven this country over the edge? Birthers, deathers, the Obama is Hitler meme (it wasn't so long ago when George Bush was Hitler...)

You just answered your own question. The "Obama is Hitler" Kenya-Birthers are simply the mirror image of the "Bush is Hitler" 9/11-truthers. Same type of loonies, different target.

So while there's a lot of noise, I would not say the country is going nuts. At most there has been a changing of the guard -- its a different set of nuts who are making the noise now.

The current set of nuts just has open access to national media. Some even have national news shows with millions of viewers.

It's the curse of the 2 Party system, because no matter what side you prefer, there always is just one opponent on the other side.
