Archeologly proves the Bible?

Still, your post was interesting for a variety of reasons. Like supercorgi, I'm hoping you'll send me a copy of the Archeology Bible (we'll set that up later, ok?)

My local library doesn't have any books by William Stephens, so I will need to borrow a copy as well.

Did you get a chance to view the Archeology Bible yet? I will get one soon but I have only seen them and they seem to have a lot of info you should check out. As for documents on the internet I do not have that much at my finger tips at this point but I will keep working on it as I get time.

That's good. But before you put too much of your hopes on the Archaeology Bible, you may want to check and make sure that it hasn't been recently debunked.

As for the walls of Jericho, well I had heard once or twice they have discovered some of the remains but I need to dig a bit to find it. I just want to add when we look at this wall of Jericho story we must also think in terms of the spiritual sense. What do you think the walls represent and why did God make this illistration of victory for us? I see it kind of like this... People have walls built up because of sin and God is the one that can crumble the walls we set up ourselves to set us free from the bondage sin creates. This passage of scripture has a lot more meaning to it but unless you let the spirit of God show you I do not think you'll understand.

Maybe they did discover the walls of Jericho. But this doesn't mean that we have to look at scientific evidence as proof of religious beliefs without even thinking about it. You jump from "Hey, we discovered a ruined city" to "JEEBUS HAS LEFT US A SAGHN FROM HEAVAN!"
Oh, and circular logic.

As for Herod, He's in big trouble! Can't you see how power hungry men are sometimes threatened by losing power and so they lash out and missuse their power every chance they get? Herod was a man taken over by his sin and it was surely the death of him.

Preaching.

All of that did happened and you can trust the Bible as a reference to the truth of history.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA *snort* HAHAHA

I will give kurious_kathy credit for being sneaky. If no remains of Jericho are ever found, she can simply say, "well, it's figurative - I already said so!".

Nice backdoor, Kathy (figuratively speaking, of course...)

Are we talking about "The Archeology Bible" by William Stephens or "Archaeological Study Bible: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture" by Walter C. Kaiser, Jr. ?

Oh, they've been found, Monster.
Jericho is arguably the oldest city in the world. It is located in Palestinian territory (modern, not ancient) and apparently has a casino.

To quote myself from an earlier post on this same page:
Jericho.
First of all, it seems to be over 11,000 years old.

This is from:
http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=es

Not a definitive site, obviously.
Still, I have to admit I got really tired of reading fanatics bashing each other with Jericho as proof (or not) of the Joshua account.

What IS interesting is that Jericho seems to destroy any claim to veracity the Young Earthers might have had.
Its definitely pre-4,000 bc and and shows no signs of the Flood.

This site will walk you through Jericho and the other cities 'destroyed' by Joshua's forces:
http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/otarch3.html

Enjoy.

Hmm.
First of all, thanks to eccles and Ladewig for the links.

As for determining which of the two books is the one kurious_kathy says we'll benefit by studying, I'd have to ask:

Which one is apt for home schooling?
And available on DVD?
And supports YEC?

I'm off to investigate.

Sure I'll read it. Send me your copy. I'm not about to spend $40+ dollars to read this apologic book written by a guy who taught 20 years at an Evangelical College. I'll reimburse your for your postage and send it back to you. You do have a copy don't you? I would think so since you cite it.

You're preaching again which I asked you not to that but present evidence -not symbolic interpretations (and I thought you accepted the Bible as literal - so how can you now interprete as symbolic?.) The ruins of the city of Jericho go back to 9000 BCE (whch sort of spoils your Young Earth Creationist stuff). No evidence of the walls falling down although it was occupied by many different people over many different ages. The Wikipedia entry on Jericho is quite comprehensive.

Yet there is no historical evidence that Herod ordered a purge on all the first born sons. The Roman kept excellent records of EVERYTHING. Don't you think that they would have recorded such a massive undertaking? Again, you are trying to use the Bible as proof of the Bible - this just doesn't cut it. It's circular reasoning. I cannot trust the veracity of the Bible - it was written by humans who had an agenda. You cannot use it as proof.

Please present some solid archaeological proof that the god-inspired events of the Bible really took place. I'll accept solid, well-reseached archeological evidence as well as verifiable historical evidence. This was a literate culture - there's got to be more records of these events than just the Bible.

Okay SC first PM me your mailing address and I'll get this book out to you.

Second lets realize here the Bible is not only sound historically, but when we read it it reveals much for our souls which things of the spiritual nature must be discerned spiritually. Just because you can't see your soul does not mean you don't have one. I suggest you dig a bit deeper than the physical evidence and try to hear spiritually what God may be trying to convey to your soul.

That's good. But before you put too much of your hopes on the Archaeology Bible, you may want to check and make sure that it hasn't been recently debunked.

So you call my circular reasoning not logical but I say your wrong. I believe there is logic in mostly any kind of reasoning. If you do not heed things pertaining to the spiritual nature you must ask yourself what am I missing because God is always trying to break down that wall you put up. Is the wall skepticism itself? Maybe now would be a good time to be open to some new teachings and teachers? People who know the truth have much to offer this world and our lives here seem to be nothing more than a journey of discovery.

Are you going to take me up on my free book offer? If you haven't read Josh Mc Dowell's book "Evidence That Demands A Verdict" you will benefit a lot as he has well documented the historical evidences.

WRONG

Continue.

but when we read it it reveals much for our souls which things of the spiritual nature must be discerned spiritually.

Variation on "You must believe before you believe".

Just because you can't see your soul does not mean you don't have one.

No, but the lack of any kind of evidence whatsoever hints very heavily that we don't.

I suggest you dig a bit deeper than the physical evidence and try to hear spiritually what God may be trying to convey to your soul.

In other words, accept what I'm saying as true and you'll accept that what I'm saying is true! It's brilliant!

KK, please stop this nonsense. Your irrational and rather unintelligent posts do nothing but make you look silly. You have no idea what logic is and your attempt to preach does nothing but show how your religion makes people irrational and stupid.

Are you going to take me up on my free book offer? If you haven't read Josh Mc Dowell's book "Evidence That Demands A Verdict" you will benefit a lot as he has well documented the historical evidences.
No. Why should anyone read anything you offer when you refuse to do the same?

Interesting.
I took the time and trouble to investigate what out on the Web on the subject of Jericho. What I learned is that this fascinating city completely disproves the idea of a Young Earth.
Not only is Jericho far older (almost doubling the age of the creationalist's world) than I would have imagined, but the physical remains of the several cities that were Jericho completely negate the Flood Story.
And just to round things off nicely, the Herodian dynasty built pleasure palaces there!
Thanks to kurious_kathy, I've put Jericho on my list of cities to visit.

Ok, Jericho is that old. So what? Have any responsible non-biblical archaeologists found any artifacts that prove Joshua and Co. were there?

How much longer do we have to put up with this crap and preaching from Kathy?

Kathy, THERE WAS NO "GOD". There is no proof Joshua ever existed, nor Moses, The Bible is FICTION, a book of propaganda to suck in gullible people like you into a fairy-tale religion with threats of damnation into a non-existant Hell.

So no more bible thumping please.

LOGIC FAIL

Circular logic is, by definition, not valid reasoning. For example. I just wrote down the words "God exists. God has inspired me to write that he exists" on a piece of paper. This does not make it true. It is fallacious reasoning. If you cannot see that, I encourage you to take an elementary course in logic.

If you do not heed things pertaining to the spiritual nature you must ask yourself what am I missing because God is always trying to break down that wall you put up. Is the wall skepticism itself? Maybe now would be a good time to be open to some new teachings and teachers? The same old circular logic that you have always employed. "Believe - then you will believe".

Are you going to take me up on my free book offer? If you haven't read Josh Mc Dowell's book "Evidence That Demands A Verdict" you will benefit a lot as he has well documented the historical evidences.

No. If there really are historical evidences for the factuality of the Bible, there should be websites containing this information. Please provide links.

You definitely should if you're interested in archaeology. If you can, Persepolis is another definite "should visit" site.

Nope, and even biblical archaeologists have found nothing as proof. There is a possibility that Hebrews had lived there, but nothing to indicate any cases of crumbling walls (aside from the passage of time).

When we read the Bible historically, should we come to the conclusion that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old and that there was a world-wide flood a couple of thousand years after the creation?

Also, are you talking about "The Archeology Bible" by William Stephens or "The Archaeological Study Bible: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture" by Walter C. Kaiser, Jr. ?

Stop preaching kathy

STOP THIS STUPID BIBLE THUMPING AND PREACHING
You are becoming a real pain in the butt.

Well, as far as sources go I see kurious_kathy has moved up from home schooling DVDs, slideshows featuring Irish bogs as proof of the YEC and odd-ball academics (the 'Beowulf proves the bible is true' postulate, for those who may have forgotten) to
Josh Mc Dowell's book "Evidence That Demands A Verdict"

I dareay even ms Sonne could have predicted that one.
I'm not entirely sure how kurious_kathy knows about this book and although I'd be delighted to take her up on the book offer honour dictates my refusal.
An Evangelical colleague lent it me some time ago.

Anyway.

Back to Jericho.
I'd be interested in knowing how kurious_kathy reacts to the idea that the city of Jericho is almost twice as old as the planet Earth.
Or that the city completely nixes the Flood story.
