GOP Rep. Franks Waffles on the "Birther" Nonsense

Sigh... this has become like a sad broken record from too damn many politicians in the GOP these days...

Franks: 'Ridiculous' O won't produce long-form certificate

Bethany Haley, a spokeswoman for Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), called us earlier today to say that her boss wasn't considering a birther lawsuit against President Obama because of recent legal rulings tossing out similar suits.

She writes back with a lengthy detailed explanation of Franks' position, saying he has extensively researched a lawsuit and ruled it out and believes Obama was born in Hawaii — but finds it "ridiculous" that the leader of the free world won't produce his "long-form" birth certificate. ...

Yet one month earlier, Rep. Franks stated the patently obvious...

Franks in July: Obama 'born in Hawaii'

A month before Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) told a town hall audience that there is not enough evidence that President Barack Obama is a natural-born citizen, he told an interviewer that he believes Obama was “born in Hawaii.”

According to the Mohave Daily News, on Sunday, Franks told a town hall audience in Kingman, Ariz., that there is conflicting evidence as to whether the president was born in the United States. According to the report, the Republican congressman called on Obama to produce his birth certificate and threatened to sue the president over the issue. ...

It is precisely this kind of waffling, spineless, birther nonsense and the willingness of so many in the GOP to kowtow to it that points out how far gone the Republican party has gotten in the last 10 months. Even after some of these wimps admit that Obama's a citizen, they do all that they can to keep the birther myth alive, just so they can appease the wingnuts.

At this rate, I don't think I'll be voting Republican for at least a generation

Now, having just lambasted Franks, to be fair I want to post a Youtube video showing him to be the least spineless of a number of GOP Congress-critters who were asked point blank: "Do you believe that Barack Obama is a citizen of the United States?"

I read the title thinking there was a congressman named "Franks Waffles". It's a good thing there isn't because even if he were a Birther, Truther, and a Patriots fan, there's no way I could NOT vote for "Franks Waffles".

But seriously, it's embarrassing he was able to find that many congresspeople who were so afraid of the birthers. I don't call them fringe anymore because I'm not sure they are. I think the center may have gone nuts.

It is a pretty sad commentary of how stupid U.S. politics have gotten when so many of our elected officials are scared ****less of the wingnuts in their own party that they cannot answer a simple "Yes or No" question which any 5th grader could easily.

Don't expect any courage to face up to the base from anybody in the House, Republican or Democrat. These guys have such safe seats that their only real challenge is fighting off the occasional primary contender.
