FOX and O'Reilly on the Netherlands

the US government should forbid FOX to call itself News in any form or way.

this is soooo laughable. but the sad part is their numbers, people actually watch the crap and belive it. and call it the fair and spinnfree channel, the place you get real information......

the Dutch should sue FOX, it is damaging their image as a tourist destination.

But it's a cesspool, it's anarchy, it's out of control!!!!

hey, and when Amsterdam is Anarchy, well color me Anarchist then :)

(mmh my visit comes to mind when Ajax won the Championsleage, that evening was Anarchy)

Idiots like this make me want to leave the U.S. for good.

Where should I live, though? Hm... think the Netherlands would take me? With all that free love and rampant suicides and baby killing, it seems right for me.

Seriously, why the hell does Fox News even bother to claim "fair and balanced", and why does Bill O'Reilly keep using the term "No Spin Zone"? Who do they think they're fooling? I think even their target audience is a little bit smarter than that. Or at least, I hope.

free love? thats a myth.
my friend complained about the price, not enough service for the money :D

When i look at the ratings of Fox News, im shocked, and always i am hoping people that watch it do it for the same reason i watch it sometimes, just to have a good laugh. for normally informed people, O'reilley and others must do Satire or something like that.
and i hope most US Citizens watch it beacause it is actually the better comedy than steve colbert.

Oh yes, your "friend".
Right.

:D

hahaha, i knew that would come, strange enough it is true, i wanted to go to the Banana Bar, but it was full :D im not without sin.
i went to the coffe shop with another friend and waited for the toher 2 to report if its worth it, i then decided to spend my money on something from Nepal :D

I suspect that they're starting to get a bit nervous by the interest the UK government is showing in their lies about the NHS and have decided to pick on a smaller country instead.
This one was not about health care, and the "cesspool" stories are not new either. I guess the US Christian right gets nervous with more and more states allowing gay marriages/civil unions and more and more calls for relaxing marihuana laws. So once in a while, you've got to do a hatchjob.

But do they realise who they're mucking with?
Despite the notoriety of Japanese investors, the British have the largest U.S. direct investment holding—with the Dutch not far behind—as has been the case since colonial times. In 1990 the United Kingdom held about 27 percent of foreign direct investment in the United States, significantly greater than Japan's 21 percent.

If the Dutch complain, presumably it'll be Luxembourg next.
I hear they're a better place to hide your money than Switzerland. :D

Maybe Bill wasnt that wrong? :D

That was a cover of Der Spiegel, a German magazine, about 15 years ago. The accompanying article was a hatchjob too, but at least they got their facts right as far as I could see. To judge from the picture, they forgot that Frau Antje also grows tomatoes with too much water content ("Wasserbomben"). :D

Meanwhile in Amsterdam you can have it printed on a T-Shirt.

you should send one to bill :)

I have heard that pickpocketing and panhandling can be quite high in Amsterdam. Is this also true, or is it the expected amount given the tourism industry?

Yes, just the expected amount given the tourism industry maybe less than that. But in the red light district it might be a bit more than that, as you might expect in such a shady area. The drunk, doped up and horney tourists walking around there late at night seem to be an attractive prey for drug peddlers and thieves. BTW from what I've heard there's some overlap between those two groups.

Regarding organized crime: yes, they're heavily involved with the prostitution and marihuana supply in the Netherlands, just as in any other country.

The reason organized crime is till involved in the marijuana business, is that the government has set a limit to how much grams / plants you can own. That limit is low enough for people to buy grass and have a few plants for their own consumption, but it's too low to legally grown enough pot to supply a coffeeshop. So the suppliers of coffeeshops are criminal, and the coffeshop owners themselves too, when they buy their supplies. I don't know if the coffeshop owners get in trouble with the law for this, but their suppliers certainly do. The majority of the supply seems to be handled by criminal organizations that have huge hidden indoor pot plantations.

So the crime problem with marijuana isn't caused by the fact that its sale is legalized, but by the fact that it's not fully legalized.

BTW, I heard someone in that clip say marriage between more than two people is legal in the Netherlands, never heard of that. Can anyone confirm/debunk this?

It's difficult to judge from here. And I suspect just as difficult to judge from within the US.

FOX is a frighting phenomena. Having seen the crazies that attended the Republican rallies during the last election, I suspect their constant disinformation campaign (from what I have seen) can have some seriously dangerous effects.

There apparently is a large number of angry and frightened people who live in a weird information bubble. They seem to be inoculated against conflicting information from "outside", just like in a sect.
Experts are "elitist", other media have a "liberal bias". The way to the truth is gut feeling of the common man applied to sketchy bits of information.

There is another clip on Youtube where FOX claims that cannabis is now a super strong "killer weed" that according to unnamed FDA honcho "will kill you".
Can a news organisation actually get away with the claim that there is a "killer weed"? To my knowledge there are no recorded deaths caused by this substance in the last 8000 years of use. How come Snoop Dogg is still walking?

Speaking of Snoop; O'Reilly apparently thinks that the wonderful right to bear arms does not extend to Snoop.

And because I'm fair and balanced I'll also throw in Bill's response to that last item. (warning, involves mild Netherlands bashing)

eerm todays weed is alot lot stringer than in the 60's and 70's. Much more THC.
but it still doesnt addict, nor lead to harder druggs, nor will it kill you.

But some experts support legalizing it in Switzerland so the swiss consumer protection institutes can test it, so we could also find out if and what influence the stronger weed has on health.

/OT when i saw Snoop here in Switzerlnad live, when he came on the stage, there were like 8 or 10 joints flying on the stage, he picked up one and said, i heard i can do that here legaly, , and lit up a J.

funny enough it wasnt legal at all :D

Of course it's bunk. Here is Civil Code, Book 1, article 30, paragraph 1:
Een huwelijk kan worden aangegaan door twee personen van verschillend of van gelijk geslacht.
or in English:
Two persons of different or of equal gender can get married.
