Avast! It can now be told.. We aim to commandeer a vessel and plunder the Caribbean! The Amaz!ng Adventurhttp://bit.ly/5OLB2e 5 is on!

Join us on this, our fifth adventure on the high seas, as we commandeer an Italian liner for our own nefarious purposes, and search for plunder on the shores of The Turks & Caicos, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands of St. Thomas and St. John.

From March 6-14, 2010, no prisoners will be taken, but men and women of free spirit and inquiry may apply for a letter of marque starting at a mere $730 per able seaman. Our voyage will begin at the hide-out of that notable buccaneer, James Randi, where plans will be drawn and camaraderie will be had. Rum and victuals to be provided.


Have ye the courage to come aboard? Be ye warned... this voyage will take us once again through the clutches of the Bermuda Triangle, whereupon our last voyage we landed with one crew member fewer than when we departed...

I'd love to come on this thing. Gotta find the coin, but I've got a few months. Hmmm... maybe I could just plunder the ship once at sea.....?

Is that assuming two people share a room, or do they have single person cabins available? What other arrangements are available?

Does this mean it's like the Galapagos cruise, where you had the whole boat to yourself? Do we have a link to the particular ship we'll be on?

Pending further details, I will very likely be attending this. Can anyone who has gone on one of these before provide any anecdotes, experiences, etc?
 
This sounds like a fun trip, and I would very much like to join in. Unfortunately, I just scheduled a 4 week long trial to start in early March 2010... but this gives me one heck of an incentive to settle the litigation instead of going to trial. :)

It's great fun. It's kinda like a TAM but with a lot more social time. Everyone kinda picks a place to meet up and we enjoy each others company long into the night. It's a smaller group so it's really easy to just join in and have some fun.
 
hcmom does not lie.

we just have FUN. And fun with people that are like minded. Sometimes even a romance can come about, but for me I enjoy hanging with my BFF's. Which is rather everyone on the cruise!

That price is per person, assuming two people in a cabin. You can get a cabin to yourself, but it will cost extra. Here's the rundown that Joe Wagg sent out:

Inside cabins: Double (two to a cabin) $758.48 per person, Single (the cabin to yourself) $1,127.48

Outside cabins: Double $828.48, Single $1,327.48

Balcony: $1,128.48, $1,927.48

Jeff's just being poetic; there'll be a few dozen of us among a couple thousand passengers. The ship is the Costa Fortuna.

TAAs are hella fun; it's like the informal parts of TAM, only all the time.

Poetic, but somewhat accurate too, given how thoroughly a couple dozen of us can take over a ship...

Okay, taking a look at the ship website, do any of you who've been on these before have any opinions on inside vs. outside cabins? How much time did you spend in the cabins, anyways?

It looks like, unless I find an accommodating friend between now and then, I'd likely go for the single cabin, so it's the expensive ones for me...

Not much difference in space, just depends if you want a window looking out on the high seas or not. Balcony cabins tend to be on the upper decks and sitting outside while the sea goes by is pretty neat (but don't wear a hat or it'll end up overboard).

Let folks here (and Jeff) know you're willing to take on a roommate. If I decide not to go (but I'm 4 for 4 to date, so the odds are I will be going), I can highly recommend Cruise Roomie, i.e., Cleon, for the duty.

Second everything others have said--it is a great time with only 30-40 maximum (from other cruises, about 1/2 Forumites) and lots of good conversation (and karaoke).

It looks to me like the rooms all have one bed. I have a hard time sharing a queen-sized bed with a rather small cat, so unless you can re-arrange the furniture, this sounds like a bad idea to me. ;)

No, the steward will rearrange the furniture (seriously). It's not actually a single bed, but two twin-sized beds pushed together. They'll pull them apart if you ask them to.
 
I've had an inside cabin before; then a balcony cabin on the 1st TAA. The balcony was so worth it that we got one again when we went on another cruise.
If you can afford the extra cash it's pretty great for having your breakfast, finishing your last drink, cracking the door at night, watching the arrival at a port of call in the morning, etc.
I'm not sure I'd pay extra for just a window though, you're not in your room all that much anyway.
 
I have to say I had a balcony last time. For Alaska I had a room without windows and while it was fine you had this weird unreality about what time it was ...

I was rooming with someone that offered (kindly) to pay the extra for a balcony room... wow was it NICE. We would sleep with the door open and you could hear the waves. Plus, I'd sit out there at night and just enjoy watching the full moon and the waves. We would have cheese and crackers out there and it was SO SO SO nice.

Now if you are going to just drink and party until 2am... dont bother with it. THe fun thing is that once other people found out we had a balcony (and how nice it was) we'd have them come hang out! So the balcony got a lot of use!
