Encountered my first "Truther" today

Well, if all this is true, and I've no reason to doubt it, I have a certain sympathy with the 17 year old idiot. I did something stupid when I was that age involving credit cards. It got me in hot water and resulted in some very uncomfortable interviews in police stations. A quarter of a century later the memory still makes me blush with shame. I learnt my lesson.

Hopefully the same will be the case for this young idiot.

Triforcharity, it sounds like you're dealing with the situation with as much humanity as anyone can ask for.

which also lends to the persistence of the troofers who "wanted" to know who was involved; the boy is 17. a minor, so his identity would have been kept private anyway...

I will be speaking to the wife as to what she thinks we should do from here on out, knowing that he is just a kid. But, obviously, we cannot just let it drop, he needs some consequences. But, at the same time, prison and a permanant record isn't what I want for the kid. He still could be some benefit to society.

Prison wouldn't help anyone. Doesn't seem reasonable or realistic. Jail and confinement etc. is itself traumatic plus whatever he's got going on upstairs to deal with. Psych eval is the thing that's needed and then from there. For your part you should just push that. Is he safe, first, and then how, erm, healthy vs. ill... good on you reaching out. The $5 might seem condescending tho :p

I sent him a letter, dropped it in the mail for outgoing tomorrow. Hopefully what I said to him sinks in. I kept it pretty short and sweet

Hope you told him not to drop the soap.......

Which is exactly what I sent him a little bit of money. One of my good friends got into a little trouble, so I know how much a friendly letter, and a little bit of money can lift your spirits. I told him that if he wanted to, I would come visit him, and talk to him face to face. I told him that if he wants to, he could even call me collect. I have alot of compassion for kids. Even though he is almost 18, I still have a little faith that he can change.

As far as Bard, I believe they found him in Heaven. 100 MPH fastball???? HOLY SWEET FLUFFY JESUS!!

Didn't they know he was 17 when they charged him with a felony and held him without bail?

And a second question, weren't you just as excited when you got Dice-K? Haha!

I am sure the police did. So, just because he was 17, they couldn't/wouldn't charge him with a felony?? I am not sure I follow your thinking here.

Dice-K will be back to full strength soon enough. Yes, I was excited, but not as much. Saito has been a disapointment for the most part though. Hopefully something changes with him.

Forgive my skepticism, but what we have here now is an irate 17yo truther gets into a shouting match with you at a 7/11, stands behind your car until the cops arrive and then is charged with a felony and held without bail.

Then after talking in this thread about how you'd like to hit him with a large wrench or go to his neighborhood blasting an airhorn, (which would disturb the entire neighborhood and not just him) you reflected upon his age and sent him $5 and some stamps so you could have a pen pal.

Don't take it personally, but I'm not buying it. And I'm not buying that the Sox starting pitching won't be their undoing either.

With regards to the OP, I'd like to commend you on your admirable restraint, triforcharity. I know for a fact that I could not have done the same were I in your shoes.

And with regards to your avatar and signature -- well, all I'm gonna say is I'm still bummed about 2004. But I will also add that I'm pretty proud of the ovation the Red Sox got in St. Louis after they won. I was there and, while we sure wanted to win the Series, it was kind of neat to see the Red Sox do it after so long.

You are well known for underhand and disgusting attacks on innocent people with no evidence to back up your claims. We dont really care what you buy.

I'll give some leniency for a kid, as that is all he is. An adult should be held to higher standards, won't you agree??

Anyway, I never said I wanted to hit him with a spanner wrench. I believe I even said I didn't condone that kind of behavior. Now, as far as the airhorn thing, that would just be funny. Not that I would, as I have a little bit more respect for mankind than most truthers do. Its called maturity.

"Don't take it personally, but I'm not buying it. And I'm not buying that the Sox starting pitching won't be their undoing either."

Lets see, Beckett-13 wins

Wakefield 12 wins

Do any of your pitchers have 12 or 13 wins?? I don't think so.

ETA: Oh yeah, almost forgot. How many times has the yanks beat us this year??? Lets see.....1? No, thats not it. 2-3??? No, that's not it either. OH YEAH!! ITS NONE!!!

You said he's going to turn 18 soon, will you still feel like giving the kid some leniency then?

And the Yanks played terribly against the Sox earlier this year. Let's just see what happens in Sept. Trust me, I am as keenly aware as anyone how bad the Yankees can play. I'd rather see Melky up at a key moment than A-Rod.

and its quite dangerous, as we've seen with SEVERAL members of the truth movement, when they do get personal information or actually harm their own FAMILY (one murdered his parents)

I was HARASSED by an internet stalker and to this DAY, I keep all my information as private as possible.

I will never ever reveal any private information to a bunch of lunatics as those who participate in the troof movement

As was I.

I have an internet stalker who posted my personal information on Youtube, and then posted a lie about who I work for (the wrong college) with that universities head in it, and then advocated that other twoofs go and write him an email saying that I was a "lying, bad professor/"

so one of my neighbors (who is that university's dean) came over to me to ask me about it.

Now Ras Al Khaimah is rather small. There are only about 200 western expats, so when twoofs start harassing the head of another school about me, it kind of affects my personal relationships.

So I can fully respect Tri for not wanting to post the EXACT details for twoofs to try to run down.

Actually Tri, they would be more than willing to charge him with a felony, and depending on what is criminal background was, they may throw MORE charges at him.

Of course if his 18th birthday is anytime near, they could just HOLD him for warrents (if he has any outstanding ones, and I'd be willing to bet a couple of bucks he does), and once he turns 18 then charge him with the felony. (which they can and often DO)

Deep, I'm not sure why you have such a need to confirm Tri's story, but you should be aware that posting personal information here is grounds for banning.

Just sayin'.

Let me be clear..I do not "think I know" , or "believe I Know", MOST OF THE TIME.

Either I KNOW or I DON'T KNOW - and I KNOW that truthers claims are moon bat crazy.
No Nano super duper exploding horizontal cutting themrite that leaves zero trace evidence and makes no discernible sound and presents no visual evidence.
No super sekrit missiles that magically leave DNA behind and debris from the plane that supposedly flew over the pentagon.
On and On

YET, having said that....and even thought TRI is on the right side......I am calling BS on his story....

Call it my nose for fabrication....I just do not buy it.

The Sports forum would be a better place for the baseball discussion. Thanks.
Replying to this modbox in thread will be off topic  Posted By: Gaspode

I'm not sure why you chose my post to quote, but of course you're entitled to your opinion regarding Tri's story. This is a skeptical forum after all, and asking for evidence is what skeptics do.

However, Tri has explained his reasons for not providing further evidence, and (to me at least) they seem quite sound. So I guess your doubts will go unaddressed.

Yes, I will, as the event happened when he was a kid. Now, if he goes and pulls another stunt like this before he turns 18, then I would have absolutely no sympathy.

Nah, that whats so suprising. He has a SPOTLESS record. Not even a speeding ticket. So, we shall see.

Yep, they pretty much will be ignored, as I refuse to elaborate any more than I have.

I find it hillarious and ironic. I make a claim, but before they will believe it, I have to provide evidence. BUT, they can make a claim all day and don't have to provide any evidence. Hummm...........

For one thing, Palm Beach County does not border Brevard County. We're being asked to believe that Tri ran into this guy, who happens to live "one neighborhood over", at a 7/11 where he and his family were picking up slushies. Palm Beach County is around 117 miles away from where they both live.

I was of course not going to provide an example (did you miss that word?) satisfying RedIbis's query which could conceivably lead someone to discover Triforcharity's identity. I will not be participating in your hapless quest to disprove this story.

..but, even if Palm Beach County was closer - don't forget that this guy would also be charged with some form of harassment, and held without bail for some period of time after the initial arrest.

I do not trust your questionable research, so none of this matters. If you've convinced yourself it's false, fine.

I respect Tri's need for privacy, but that doesn't eliminate his burden of proof. He started the thread, made a claim, and has yet to provide any evidence for that claim.

So don't believe him then. What you don't seem to get is that Tri's story is not being used to buttress any sort of argument. If it ever is, feel free to rebut it as an unproven claim. As for myself, I very much doubt you have access to all the information you would need to disprove it.
