I realize ahead of time this will probably not be a very popular thread on the forums, but like the title states...

What has Obama done of significance since he has become President?

(Yes, this is a thread where the poster will be doing much of the work in keeping it alive. Also no need for someone to come in here and tell me to do my own work and research, the reason for this thread is because i already know im not going to do it.)

I just havent seen/heard/read of anything that i consider to be what i was promised during the campaign, yet i am still hearing everyday of how he is changing the world. Could just be that im uninformed.
 
The expansion of S-CHIP, the Lilly Ledbetter Act, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act are three of the signature accomplishments of the Obama White House. Others include a raising of CAFE standards and the credit-card overhaul.

He signed an executive order removing the gag order on contraception (the Mexico City Policy) like one day after the inauguration.

He issued orders to close Gitmo, but he's apparently run into logistical problems with that one. Hopefully, it will still happen on schedule.

He's done, and failed to do, several things I'm extremely unhappy with, including at least a couple that I consider to be the breaking of campaign promises. On the whole, though, it's about what I expected.
 
Besides the fact that he's a White Sox fan, I see no wrong decision-making in his Term. While he has not lived up to his claims, he can still stand his ground.
 
He hasn't stuck to his promise of putting all legislation up on the Internet for public viewing for a set period of time before voting.

Which had I voted for him, I'd be legitimately entitled to be upset about.
 
His greatest accomplishment? Disguising an earmark and party laundry list package as a magic economic cure?

He's done plenty of minor things so far that I approve of. However, the president isn't superman. He is limited from doing extraordinary things by the constitution and balance of powers. This prevents the president from acting like a monarch and perhaps doing things that extraordinarily good. But it also acts as a safeguard against extraordinarily stupid.

I think overall the status quo is the same. I think part of the passion for passing a public insurance option plan is to have an accomplishment to point to. People 100 years from now won't remember him as "the black president". They'll remember him for Obamacare. The name sticks.

He's president of the Americans who didn't vote for him just as much as those who did; I think you're legitimately entitled to be upset about it, assuming it was within his power to keep that promise.

That's valid. His lack of action on gay rights issues, I think, is a problem as well.

Of course, Rome wasn't built in a day and Obama still has at least 3+ years left.
 
Lied about not abusing Presidential Signing privileges (Obamameter calls this one a compromise)

Lied about 5 days for public comment before signing bills (I loved this idea)

Ninja'd a fly

Helped out families who couldn't pay their mortgage

More $ for science

Those are just a couple off the top of my head that I felt were clear cut as either good or bad. Then there are the issues that can be argued either way (health care, Cap and Trade)
 
This site looks fairly definitive:

Obameter. I know it just got mentioned but I feel like linking it anyway.

I think it's a little out of date - it lists not strengthening non-proliferation treaties as "no action" but I believe he recently signed a deal with Russia to significantly cut stocks of strategic nuclear missiles, and that's just off the top of my head. However it looks about right - some significant promises kept, some significant promises broken, some compromises, and a lot of stuff that he hasn't acted on yet.

I seem to remember that the whole internet transparency thing is meant to be done by about October.

I'm not sure why they can't do that bit now though. Have any questions been asked about it or any reasons given?
 
I think I agree with a poster here who said that Americans really want a King.

I mean, the stimulus, cap and trade, and health care abominations are the work of Congress. Obama just pushed that they do something on those fronts.

There's no honest reason to prevent doing it now, especially when major pieces of legislation are being rammed through that would benefit greatly from such transparency.

It's almost as if, *gasp*, transparency would be counterproductive to imposing the agenda?

Meet the new boss... but at least he's more charismatic than the old boss.

Being patient is one thing, I understand that the wars and the economy are more pressing but I lost so much respect for Obama when the administraionion compared gay marriage to incest and child rape when arguing for the constitutionality of the Defense Of Marriage Act.

He also reneged on his promise to stop discriminatory hiring in organizations that receive faith-based initiative money. The last I heard is those will be dealt on a case-by-case basis (meaning that it is still legal to discriminate in jobs that are funded with federal money).
