Jon Stewart most trusted

The Dobbs' birther fixation was dissected quite nicely, using CNN's own broadcasts, which lead to CNN distancing themself from the subject, in this morning's paper.

Now if only CNN would do the same in regards to Dobbs implying Canada is a "cheap foreign labor market" and Dobbs often touting the "North American Union" and "NAFTA superhighway" conspiracy theories...

As a comedian, Colbert may be superior. He always stays in character. That takes a lot of discipline. But he is a skit comic. He doesn't do the news as well as Stewart. Actually, I thought Dennis Miller when he did Weekend Update on SNL was the best, but when you do five minutes a week, it's a little easier than doing a full show every night.
Colbert is better with the bits, judging from the interviews he does, but Stewart destroys with his improv skills.

But Miller is such a jerk now, it has recorded over any memories I had of his SNL stuff.

Translation: Now that Dennis Miller is no longer identified as an SNL liberal, he forfeits his place as the brightest of the SNL alumni.

According to Robert ParKs, who is so trustworthy that I didn't even google it,
"JON STEWART DONS THE MANTLE OF CRONKITE.
Even as the revered anchor of CBS News was laid to rest, Time released the
state-by-state results of a poll of 10,000 Americans across the nation,
asking: who is now the "most trusted" newscaster in America? The
overwhelming choice, with 44%, is Jon Stewart."
Well, he did say that Obama demonstrated "stupidity" last night.

Considering Stewart is a comedian/satirist, how does that change the fact that the the lame stream media is liberal?

Jon Stewart just said, "I wasn't there and I don't know all the facts...but I think President Obama acted .....stupidly."
Damned liberal, left wing media!
Jeff Corey

.
Yes.
The media on the whole is pathetic.
Not a one of the prime time talking heads is even at the height of Cronkite's kneecaps!
Or Murrow's.
Or Huntley, or Brinkley.
They're just a buncha tele-prompter quoting pretty boys.

I guess liberal anchors are not created equal.

Miller was never a liberal. Anybody who was a fan of him could see that early on. One of his very early bits trashed opponants of the death penalty. While I am not crazy about when Miller became (briefly) a shill for the Bush administration, the guy is still funny and he still skewers both sides.

Miller actually uses a fair amount of reason and logic in his arguments. He never gave into the Secret muslim arguments that were quite popular on conservative talk shows.

I never said he was ever a liberal. That is why I said "identified" as an SNL liberal.
There is even a thread on the Democratic Underground asking:

"When did Dennis Miller become conservative"

Just because Miller was for taking out Saddam, that didn't make him a "shill" for Bush 43. Of course this idea seems to be the focus of former fans of his SNL work ( that were oblivious to his conservatism), who no longer think he is funny.

Okay, let me correct that. He was a shill for Bush's war. I was very disappointed in that. I wonder if he still feels the same way.

But I have no problem with Miller or his views, some of which I disagree with. I still think he is hilarious and one of the best of the very rare cerebral comics around. I own four of his books of "rants". I've seen him live twice and both times left with my jaws aching from laughing so much. (One of my all time favorite lines: "Somewhere in an attic, Michael Jackson has a picture of himself that's getting blacker every day.")

He describes himself as "libertarian", and he walks the walk, being for gay marriange and abortion on demand.

Yes, he does. He is not alone. Does everyone who was for the removal of Saddam automatically become a "shill" for Bush's war?

He carries on the tradition of Groucho. There are damn few comedians who can pull that off. If only Groucho had a chance to be a host on MNF.

"I think abortion's wrong, but it's none of my business to tell somebody what's wrong," he said. "So I'm pro-choice. I want to keep my nose out of other people's personal business. I guess I fall into conservative when it comes to protecting the United States in a world where a lot of people hate the United States."

He does have a caveat about it being "wrong." He doesn't say anything about "on demand" or now illegal partial birth abortions.

"If two gay guys want to get married, it's none of my business. I could care less. More power to them. I'm happy when people fall in love."

I think he means he "couldn't" care less. But does that mean that he considers people who voted for Prop 8 wrong since it is none of his business.

No. Only if they wanted to do it by Bush's method. I wanted him removed, or at least defanged, but by diplomatic means. Dennis spoke out in favor of the invasion. I was disappointed in that. I thought from the beginning that the invasion was a very very bad idea. Lots of people disagreed with me then. Not so many now. I wonder if Dennis is among them.

Yes.

I think you're some kind of deviated prevert. I think general Ripper found out about your prevertion, and you were organizing some kind of mutiny of preverts.

If you are going to quote material from Dr. Strangelove, you should cite the source. Otherwise, you're gonna have to answer to the Coca Cola company. ;)
