Michael Jackson fans commit suicide!!!!

isnt it like with Take That or how they were called? the crazy teens commiting suicide?

I'm really annoyed by these kinds of articles. When I was a kid there was a scare about roleplaying games. Newspapers reported that a teenager commited suicide because of his ingame character "dying". I remember feeling so angry at those reporters. It was as if nothing else about this kids life mattered in any way.

People kill themselves. To reduce the pain and sorrow that drove them to this down to "it was because Michael Jackson died" is very distasteful way to make an argument, atleast in my opinion.

ever seen South Korean LineAge I / II players? when their wife and her mother try to pull the husband out of the Internetcafe? Or the one that went to the Office of NC Soft and destroying theyr equipment just because someone hacked his account and stripped his Char?

there are crazy people :)

I get that your post was in jest Dictator Cheney but it sort of drives home my point. Yep, there are crazy people. But the reasons for their mental state are a too complicated to explain with one single easy answer.

South Korea is perhaps a good example of this. If it was the games that was the major cause for suicide there would not be all that many gamers left. So there's obviously something more to it than that.

Ah well, I think the readers get that I consider news about suicide to be oversimplified by now. Rant over.

i agree with you. those poeple have other problems and MJ or MMORPG's are just one of the problems they have. but in those cases its the problem that made it tip over.

They could have a guest 5th member on a rotatin basis - say... Stephen Fry, Jack Dee and Rob Brydon. Maybe not - Rob can actually sing. ;)

I remember those days too. One of the reason why I do not like Connie Chung because of the "D&D causes suicides". Never mind that those kids who did kill themselves were already messed up in the head, and need physicatric help that the parents did not provide to the kids or try to get the kids help. It is the fault of the game. Please, take some responibility parents.

Don't know what's new about this - copycat suicides are a fact of life, aren't there? Reports of random suicides alone can be enough to get someone else to kill themselves, think then about a celebrity with lots of influence.

This is either someone who I would encourage not to be a parent, or a brilliant troll.
Sigh... son... it's like this... sometimes a stupid bee meets a stupid flower and... ah, bugger, I might as well... sit down on my lap now and daddy'll tell you all about Google Answers...

how would they even know this? Did their families come out and say something? Otherwise...yeah.

The article linked in the OP mentions a forum for Michael Jackson fans. I took a moment just now to check it out. There are a lot of people posting suicide threats, saying they can't go on, talking about how upset they are, etc.

I remember seeing an interview with a woman the day Michael's child molestation trial started.

She explained to the reporter that she had quit her job of 12 years (school teacher) and flown to California from somewhere in New England because Michael needed her support and just being there outside the courthouse would help him get through the ordeal.
