Getting around Vegas from South Pointe

There are two bus routes that travel between the South Point and the Strip proper. Unfortunately, they both require transferring.

The Route 117 bus stop is a short walk from the hotel. It travels North to the South Strip Transfer Terminal where you can transfer to "The Deuce" The 301 Strip bus. The Deuce goes all the way up the strip and to Fremont Street and the downtown casinos.

The other option is The Las Vegas Trolley
It can be slow since it stops at every casino, but it travel off the Strip, so it can be faster if traffic is bad.

After midnight, it look like springing for a taxi is the only option, it can be expensive. Hope this info. helps everyone with their plans.

There is also a free shuttle that runs to Mandalay Bay (at least there was when I stayed at the SP a few years ago). Once you get to that point, you can walk to most places or grab a cab. MB is at the very south end of the Strip but it's close to a lot of stuff (MGM, Trop, Excalibur, Luxor, NYNY). If you want to get up to places on the north end (Treasure Island, Wynn, Flamingo, even Caesar's or Bellagio) take some good walking shoes and get some exercise or spend a few bucks and take a cab. Of course, Fremont is a ways so take a cab if you want to get there in a timely manner. Take the shuttle to MB, walk to Bellagio or Caesar's and grab a cab or take the monorail from MGM (very close to MB) to the Hilton (northern-most stop of monorail) if you want to save some money. I'm not saying the bus isn't good but it's slower and you may end up riding with some less than savory characters. Just my opinions but it's what I'd do if I didn't have wheels of my own.

Sadly, the South Point has discontinued the free Strip shuttle. At least they had when I visited recently.

It looks like the best case scenario would be around $25. This does not include a tip. Considering that it cost me just under $20 to get from the South Point to the Mandalay Bay last year, I would guesstimate up to $40. At least you can split the cost with up to 5 people.

Shuttles and taxi aside, how many people will have cars? I know some are driving, and some may rent.

If you can snag someone with a car, you may be able to do it for less. I at least can be persuaded for much less than the cost of a taxi (hint: a few noms go a long way). Of course, this means the driver couldn't drink/much/they drink early on/whatnot. Also, I have NO idea what parking is like anywhere aside from casino lots, though I assume it's available.

My car may be full, but I'm sure I'm not the only one. Just another option to throw in the hat.

I'm not aware of anyone who's ever had trouble parking in Vegas. All the places that I know people want to go have plenty of parking.

Ditto, personally I've ever only parked at casinos/hotels though, and taken the expensive, er...scenic shuttle trolley deals around the strip. I really should know better, and will this time.

Good to know someone else's thoughts aline with mine on this, it isn't proof, but re-enforcement is nice.

That totally blows. It is a small-ish shuttle (holds about 15) but, unless everyone went at the same time you'd think they could handle it. Oh, well. I say take a taxi to Mandalay Bay (probably ten bucks?) then walk (it really is good exercise; you could probably log 10 miles a day if you went into most of the hotels/casinos but BRING GOOD SHOES!) or take the Monorail if you're going far. As someone else mentioned, if you could rent a car and split it four ways, it might be pretty affordable. Use valet at the hotels since it's free (although you will need a tip; you can handle a dollar or two apiece, right?) or park it yourself. Parking in the garage's is plentiful normally, especially in the summer.

Don't bother with the Peppermill unless you have to. There are plenty of great places to eat that are closer. I like Mizuno's (Japanese sushi and teppan) at the Trop. If you want better Japanese, take the trip to the Hilton where they have a Benihana. There is a PF Chang's near the Planet Hollywood Hotel and a Cheesecake Factory in the Forum Shops at Caesar's. Plus, there are lots of good restaurants sprinkled in every hotel so you don't have to go far to get some great grub. The places at the SP are fine (my friends like the Oyster Bar there) - the Deli is good and inexpensive - but I'd go to the Strip and feast if you have it in your budget. The food in Vegas is really great and fresh and you can eat almost anything you can think of. If you're not a gambler, shoot your wad on food. If you want a drink, just hang out near a craps table (try to look like you're playing or will play) and get one from a cocktail waitress.

I wish I could be there but my last Vegas trip was in March and we're moving soon so money's a little tight. Have fun and bring down the house!
