Dear Forum Members:

Just a note to attract attention to this year's call for papers. The link to this year's call is buried a bit in the TAM7 webpage under workshops, but here it is as well:
http://www.csufresno.edu/physics/rhall/jref/tam7p/papers_tam7.htm

I welcome anyone that feels they have something important to say or share with the JREF community-- in 20 minutes or less!-- to submit an application. Unfortunately preparation time is limited (due date: May 1) so don't delay!

I look forward to hearing from the forum membership.

Best,

Ray

How do you guys feel about people re-submitting papers that weren't selected last year? My paper idea from last year is still available!

I have some very important things to say to the JREF community. And I don't need an application to do it! I'll probably do it at the Forum party.

Resubmissions are welcome-- maybe tweak it a bit?
... what was the topic again?

It was a comparison of how the US Patent Office and the Canadian Patent Office prosecuted the patent applications for the Perfect Sommelier, which is one of those things that allegedly use magnets to make wine taste better. I'm showing how the Canadian examiner was able to use some of the resources of the skeptical community to refuse the patent, in contrast to the US examiner.

This leads into some recommendations I can make as to how other skeptics can help improve the patent system.

I guess the new tweak would be that the Canadian application will finally be well and truly dead within about a month, which was something I wouldn't have been able to report last year. Last year, it had been "abandoned", but could have been revived. It goes to "dead" status next month, if I recall.

I'd love to but I don't have time because of school. Maybe next year I'll do a paper on frivolous lawsuits and how they are portrayed in the media.

Just to bump this, whist bragging a bit: I just got the invitaiton to present my paper!

So now I'll have to stop drinking early Saturday night.

What was I thinking?!?!?! ;)

Mr. Ottle and I also got a go-ahead to present our paper, which is on measuring the effectiveness of the skeptic web.

According to his Twitter, Brian Dunning is going to present one that is a follow up to Skeptoid #115: Search for the Missing Cosmonauts.

So that's three papers identified. Anyone know the identities of the other three? (There are six slots, total).

I know Derek Bartholomaus, Brian Hart and Maria Walters all unfortunately did not make the cut.

Just did my first practice run through my talk - Just about bang on 20 minutes. Now, to try to eliminate the uhms and ahs, and punch up the jokes!
