I'm a fan of Weyerbacher.

The quad is great.
Merry Monk is enjoyable.
Blithering idiot is a wonderful, lightly hopped barley wine.

I find all this beer talk more stimulating than DOC's god talk...us atheists are just drunks.

Thanks for the link . It's part of the Duvel Moortgat concern so you can't go wrong there. There is a Belgian beer that is brewed in Texas called Celis.Ever heard of it?
http://beerme.com/brewery.php?1141

Apropos of nothing, ommegang is a defunct word meaning social intercourse, companionship,a parade or a procession.Nowaday's it's spelled omgang.

I knew that they'd been bought out by Duvel (another fine, tasty brew), but they'd started as a local brewery and from those that I've talked to, Duvel has left them pretty much alone as far as recipe is concerned.

I've had Celis White and one other, who's name escapes me. Quite good.

Thanks for the translation. I was wondering where that word came from.

Why do the most ridiculous threads get hundreds of pages and thousands of replies, while the interesting and intelligent ones fizzle out after a dozen posts or so?

I bet if you looked at forum statistics, you would find that the most highly-trafficked threads were those started by bat-guano insane conspiracy theorists, and/or frothing creationists.

Not that I MIND. I just think it's sort of interesting that a thread titled "I cured my headache with a homeopathic remedy" will get a day or two of traffic, while "PROOF that zombie crypto-Jew Darwinists brought down the WTC with nano-thermite and holographic planes" stays around for *years*.

I do not know who made me,
Still less do I care,
The sheep that dot the meadow
Make no altar there.

Of transubstantiation
Beetles never learn,
The foxes build no bonfires
Where heretics must burn.

The bees that gather honey
Propagate in sin,
Nor do they slay in jihad
Their unbelieving kin.

No missionary weasels
Slither on the sly,
Nor does the dormouse tell me
That I must kneel or die.

Your words are your opinions,
Who knows what is true?
I do not know who made me—
And neither, friend, do you.

Because most of the threads started by intelligent reasonable people, capable of understanding an argument and either coming to an agreement, or agreeing to disagree without antagonism end up with everyone agreeing, or agreeing to disagree, usually in a calm polite manner, after a few pages.

The threads started by bat-guano insane idiots live on because the bat-guano insane idiots refuse to alter their stance one iota, regardless of what evidence is produced to prove that they are bat-guano insane idiots, and continue to argue their point endlessly, in the face of any evidence to the contrary, and most people here refuse to let the bat-guano insane idiots have the last word.

I think.

Posters like Doc have a lot of entertainment value. The mental machinations necessary to mantain the required delusion in the face of reasoned arguments are endlessly fascinating.

"Who knows for certain? Who shall here declare it?
Whence was it born, whence came creation?
The gods are later than this world's formation;
Who then can know the origins of the world?
None knows whence creation arose;
And whether he has or has not made it,
He who surveys it from the lofty skies,
Only he knows -- or perhaps he knows not."
-- Rig Veda (quoted in Sagan, Broca's Brain)

Yes,it's like watching a Sesame Street tarantula under a glass.

I'm a Xian and I haven't commented here? WHat's wrong with me?

Religion is about FAITH. If you need FACTS to have FAITH, then you don't have FAITH.

Also tolerance and love were the main points Jesus was trying to get across. His number one legacy for all Xians was that leading a Xian lifestyle and behaving with love and tolerance is the number one way to convert people. As Ghandi once said "if I ever met a real Christian I'd convert!"

Sadly, reading the Bible isn't what being a Xian is all about. It's about following the example of a very good teacher.

Judge not lest ye be judged dude.

The biblical jesus is a myth, based on older myths.

Tolerance and love are certainly good qualities, no argument there. There isn't anything very loving, though, about sentencing non-believers, people who haven't heard of you, or people that simply fail to lick your feet to eternal torture. There also seems to ba a lot of judgement involved there, not just by God on Judgement day, but by some Christians against anyone who doesn't follow their religion.

Why do the most ridiculous threads get hundreds of pages and thousands of replies, while the interesting and intelligent ones fizzle out after a dozen posts or so?
Because the interesting and intelligent ones are made by regular posters, while the long ones are made by trolls or, in this case, by someone who thinks his number of posts correlate to the truth of those posts.
