Video Game Outrage and Audio Pareidolia

A Turk is more likely to speak Turkish than Arabic, even the Muslim ones.

The Takbir is always spoken in Arabic by Muslims regardless of whether they know Arabic or not, much as English speaking Christians say "Hallelujah" rather than "Praise Yahweh".

I'd think the non-Arab Muslims would have a problem with that.

What will they call their version of Vatican II, when they resolve to use the vernacular? Mecca II?

And Catholics, at least the American ones, don't say "Hallelujah". They say "Alleluia". There's probably some blood-soaked history behind that.

Slayhamlet is correct. They don't have a problem. In fact, as the language of Quranic revelation it is considered holy. Around the world the call to prayer is in Arabic as is every prayer a Muslim recites. The post-Ottoman secular Turkish Republic tried to have the ezan made in Turkish but the move proved unpopular and didn't last. The Friday sermon is often the only thing given in the local language.

Turkish is rather a bit odder of a language than people are giving it credit for.

Most languages, for instance, didn't develop a written form in the past hundred years.

Yeah, Christians used to feel the same way about Latin.

It wore off eventually.

Not quite the same. To muslims, Arabic is the language that God spoke to the people using Mohammed's mouth. Catholics use the Latin Vulgate, but not because that was how it was originally written, they just believe it is the most accurate translation available.

So you see, Arabic isn't just the most accurate translation. It is the accurate text. No translation required.

People like this are the reason FSTDT was founded.
Too long; didn't watch

"...when the gay mafia..."

"40% of women are solid"

POTUS.."he is a marxist"..."Obama is a total misogynist"

All that the guy does is rant.

If you disrespect Nintendo then U R MR GAY
If you think he is ignorant of the facts, look at his comments.

Just wait until they hear about Assassin's Creed where you play an Arab assassin killing Christian Crusaders.
Someone else mentioned a C&C game - I'd like to add Generals to the list. That title took racial and political stereotypes to a whole new level. It would be funny if it was a parody, but sadly it for some reason took itself seriously.

Really? I thought that it more or less was obviously a bit tongue in cheek.

My major problem with it was that though it was an interesting idea (the terrorists were a really cool faction idea that hasn't been done before) the entire game devolved into 'why wouldn't I play China?' Especially after the x-pac. I think the illustration of that was the Americans got a space-based laser thingy as their superweapon, the terrorists got a Scud missile swarm with bioweapons, and the Chinese got nukes. Yep. Nukes.

But now I'm wandering.
