Actually St. Peter's brings up something I thought about the other day..
Christians often point to the great achievements of past Christians to lend credence to the idea that Christianity is true.. Amazing buildings, stunning artwork, literature, music, even scientific discoveries.
And really, that's the kind of thing I would expect from someone who follows the TRUE god.. their art should be better than anything else, their science should be better, their music better.. followers of the TRUE god (assuming that following god provides benefits) should be at the absolute top of pretty much every discipline imaginable.
And for a time you could probably say they were.. but was that because of whichever god? Or is it a case of a country winning more medals just because they have more people to pick from.. if most people in a society follow a god, and that society is relatively wealthy compared to all others, well of course the best stuff is going to come from that society.
Compare that today. When I walk into a Christian book store, the art is cheezy, the literature is poor, the music is ok but not the best (I happen to like a lot of worship music, but still).. modern feats of architecture, of exploration, of achievement, don't strike me as particularly Christian (or any other denomination).
Anyway, just a thought I had the other day.
