You can make a cut in the beams and the put "kicker charges" on the beams to cause the beam to collapse.
Sure you "could".
But that scenario would require:
1- an irresponsible FDNY bigwig sending people into a burning building that they believed would collapse at any minute, for the sole purpose of preventing further property damage. The area had been evacuated.
2- that the FDNY bigwig thought that controlling any spread of fire to adjacent buildings couldn't be contained by the hoses being laid from the fire boats.
3- that someone professional enough to do the job would also presumably be aware of what the state of the building is, and that there were no people in danger, and yet would go in anyways.
4- that these professionals would go into an unstable burning building and start cutting beams when they had no idea if the beam they're cutting will bring the building down on top of them cuz they hadn't been able to do a detailed structural analysis.
5- that these amazingly brave people stayed mum about what would become one of the most amazing acts of heroism from that day, and would serve as an inspiration to everyone in the country.
Either that, or your amazingly stupid theory comes from a like mind.
