Sean Hannity offers to be waterboarded for charity

Good.

Do you approve of similar criminal investigations into US agents committing torture?

I can't wait to see your draft of the protest letter you will be sending to your MP. What ideas do you have for a catchy bumper sticker?

1) If a doctor at the scene of a car crash performs a Trachiotomy on an accident victim without the consent of the victim is that illegal?

Makes no difference. I was very clear with I wrote:

(things that would often be illegal if done without consent)

"Things that would OFTEN be illegal if done without consent" does not say "things that would ALWAYS be illegal if done without consent. Keep those strawmen coming.

I already provided examples of nefarious medical procedures being done even though the patient gave their consent.

And your examples do nothing to support your argument.

2) Since waterboarding is supposed to be a dangerous activity, why should it be legal whether there is consent or not? Many states and colleges have outlawed hazing regardless if the subject consents to it or not. Why would waterboarding not come under this heading?

Perhaps waterboarding would come under that heading. If you'll just list the states and colleges that have outlawed hazing and then show us some examples of people being waterboarded under circumstances covered by those laws then we'll probably find that waterboarding does come under that heading.

Um ... how about: "Well done, you're doing the right thing"?

Your headline was: "Police launch investigation of MI5 over torture claims".

Good.

I shall not be protesting to my MP, because I believe that this is a good idea.

"The political dimension of any covert policy on torture is unlikely to be uncovered."

"Elizabeth Manningham-Buller Head of MI5 until 2007. She said in 2006 that British services do not ask if intelligence was obtained by torture as "that would make things difficult".

Still no reason to nudge your MP about the collusion of Parliament and 007's employer's methods? It sure does appear to be a sticky wicket.

I'm glad that the police are investigating.

You do love pointless digressions, don't you?

Mind you, so would I if I were you.

He didn't think it was torture.

I came across no such quote within the citations.

He doesn't even say it on the Hour when asked by George:

Just another case of discrepancies in Wikipedia.

Great excerpt from his water boarding article though:

The team who agreed to give me a hard time in the woods of North Carolina belong to a highly honorable group. This group regards itself as out on the front line in defense of a society that is too spoiled and too ungrateful to appreciate those solid, underpaid volunteers who guard us while we sleep. These heroes stay on the ramparts at all hours and in all weather, and if they make a mistake they may be arraigned in order to scratch some domestic political itch. Faced with appalling enemies who make horror videos of torture and beheadings, they feel that they are the ones who confront denunciation in our press, and possible prosecution

It is pretty obvious he wasn't serious if you watch the video of him and Grodin. Olbermann's frankly disturbing desire to see an innocent person get waterboarded for the sake of saving face for a controversy he himself is drumming up is just crazy/retarded.

Is it just me or does it seem like Olbermann, Beck, Hannity, Oreilly and these other bozos now live in their own little fantasy lands where the reality they believe is true is projected on their TV shows instead of.... well.... real news or insightful commentary. They all need to be hauled off to a reality rehab for TV news commentators.

Well said, corp :D

They all pale in comparison to a certain John Stewart wannabe.

Erich "Mancow" Muller (there must be a story behind that nickname, and I don't want to know what it is) agreed to be waterboarded live on his right-wing talk show.

He lasted ... six seconds.

"It is way worse than I thought it would be, and that's no joke," Mancow said, likening it to a time when he nearly drowned as a child. "It is such an odd feeling to have water poured down your nose with your head back...It was instantaneous...and I don't want to say this: absolutely torture."

"I wanted to prove it wasn't torture," Mancow said. "They cut off our heads, we put water on their face...I got voted to do this but I really thought 'I'm going to laugh this off.' "

So, he's less of a charlatan than Hannity. Though this is not a rare distinction.

I'm saying that in the instance of waterboarding, it is counterproductive to the torture appellation to this procedure if it becomes chic to give it a whirl regardless if the object of the exercise has consented to it.

I wouldn't describe these kids as "cool," but if people consent to being waterboarded for kicks, it certainly doesn't help the official position that this technique is immoral, reprehensible and has no place in a civilized society.

Waterboarding. It's not just for detainees anymore.

Kaj Larsen, journalist and former military officer, paid $800 to endure being "waterboarded" for a video on Current TV.

Christopher Hitchens, journalist, Vanity Fair.

Mike Guy, journalist, Playboy.com

Jesse Ventura, ex-wrestler, ex-Governor, full time 9/11 woo moonbat

Mancow, "Mancow's Morning Madhouse," formerly on Rock 103.5 and WKQX-FM

Next up: Paris Hilton agrees to be waterboarded, but only if her interrogator uses Perrier.

The fact that people are willing to "give it a whirl" before they've experienced it first hand shows that they're idiots, not that it isn't torture. The fact that after they've tried it they describe it as "absolutely torture", shows that it's torture.

If someone who's tried it for a mere six seconds says that it's "absolutely torture", then that is not actually "counterproductive to the torture appellation" (blimey, what a phrase) and in fact shows that its "place in civilized society" is in a museum, alongside the thumbscrews and the rack.

Me thinks jolly ol chaps at MI5 prefers cigarette butts. Maybe their will be a new attraction at Madame Tussauds featuring a wax rendition of Binyam Mohamed being interrogated by "John from MI5."

Mancow broke down in 6 seconds without being physically damaged or disfigured. Sounds like pretty effective torture.

That depends on what he told them, and whether it happens to be useful to them or not, now doesn't it?
