Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

All I know is in school I never believed Darwinism was right. It just never sat well with me as truth. And now the more I know about it DNA research does not hold up in this theory. All I know is my ancestor isn't an ape!

What do you know about DNA research, can you expand on what about DNA research goes against evolution?

Sorry Hokulele I have chosen to follow Christ and his teachings alone now. Darwinism is anti-God so no way! I want them to get Darwinism out of the public schools since it is already well documented to be false.

Why is evolution anti-God? Most Christians accept evolution you know.

Your ETA is speculation, not fact.

Which of the 4 statements regarding Jesus, James, Christians killed in Rome by Nero, and Christians killed by the Roman govenor Pliny the Younger in my ETA in post 3716 is speculation and why is it speculation?

You can also forget a lot in 30 or 40 years, and misremember things that you thought you saw. The mind has endless ways to play tricks on itself.
Well personally I can remember many things that happened in high school and college like they happened yesterday. And if you travel around with whom many think is the greatest person in history for 3 years your memory should even be better.

Because trying to link Nero and Pliny the Younger to your Wikipedia list (which contains more than just James and doesn't include Jesus), is pure speculative fiction.

Should be != is. Speculation.

For everything else DOC says...

Priceless

:D

Hey DOC, I noticed you haven't answered this yet:
DOC said:
Remember none of the Gospels were signed --which made sense since promoting Christianity could get you killed in Roman occupied Palestine.

So how can you claim to know who wrote them?

So you concede that your Bible was written decades after the supposed events by people you can't claim to know as the writers because your books weren't signed?

Why should we believe anything in your book again?

The New Testament Writers Abandoned Their Long Held Sacred Beliefs and Practices, Adopted New Ones, And Did Not Deny Their Testimony Under Persecution Or Threat Of Death

Has anybody seen "Joe Bob Briggs, Dead in Concert"? In which he discusses a man who lived in his small home town (the dirt capital of West Texas) who "musta been a fan of The Pilgrim's Progress because he could capitalize like a sonuvabitch."

I wonder if Geisler read The Pilgrim's Progress or if he just doesn't understand the rules so he capitalizes everything? Or was it the OP who did that?

Well personally I can remember many things that happened in high school and college like they happened yesterday.
So you claim but just about every psychology and neuroscience research on memory states the opposite.
And if you travel around with whom many think is the greatest person in history for 3 years your memory should even be better.
No. Evidence shows that memories change, especially with the "bigger" stories. You should read up the research on false memories, criminal eyewitness testimonies and even some recent research about memories of 9/11/01 and how bad memories are.

So are you conceding that your Bible was written decades after the fact based on old "memories"(at best, more likely old stories) which research shows to be inaccurate and prone to confabulation by authors who did not sign their writings?

Pax, I said it a long time ago but I want to say it again. Seems to me there are 2 kinds of people in this world,
1.Those like Doc and me that know it's true and take it on faith and then we make all these incredible discoveries that confirm it even more.

2. People that choose not to believe it and no have faith. God does prove his word plenty, lots of evidence out there but you have to try to see what's right with it rather than what's wrong with it. Do you think you could try a different set of eye glasses?

God loves us so much he left his love letter to open the eyes of blind souls. The Bible is a love letter!

So in your world, confirmation bias is a good thing.

Huh, no wonder you appear to be too cowardly and hypocritical to read any of my recommendations.

Actually there are 10 kinds of people in the world, those that understand binary, and those that don't.

1.Those like Doc and me that know it's true and take it on faith
If you know then there's no need for faith, if you take it on faith then (by definition) you don't know.

and then we make all these incredible discoveries that confirm it even more.
Yeah, it's called confirmation bias.

2. People that choose not to believe it and no have faith.
Who says it's a choice. There are lots of people on this board who were very religious, but just couldn't maintain that faith or belief in the face of all the evidence that it was wrong, or at least pointless.

God does prove his word plenty,
Where, how? Which god?

lots of evidence out there but you have to try to see what's right with it rather than what's wrong with it.
How about trying to see both? There's that confirmation bias again - if it agrees with your faith then it must be right, if it disagrees with your faith then it must be wrong. That's no way to seek the truth, you're just looking for the warm fuzzy feeling of being right, regardless of whether or not you actually are.

Do you think you could try a different set of eye glasses?
Like the ones you wear that block out anything that contradicts your belief? Thanks, but I'll stick to the ones that let me see everything with 20:20 vision.

God loves us so much he left his love letter to open the eyes of blind souls. The Bible is a love letter!
A love letter? Have you actually read it?

Kathy, there is more truth in what you wrote than you possibly realise:

1) Confirmation Bias is ALL you have

Those like Doc and you know believe it's true and take it on faith and then you make all these incredible discoveries that confirm it even more.

TRUE :)

2) Reality is for people who can't handle drugs
People that choose not to believe anything have no faith in anything

TRUE :)

Its curious that in your 2nd 'point' - on realists - you derailed yourself with a whole bunch of woo: ". God does prove his word plenty, lots of evidence out there but you have to try to see what's right with it rather than what's wrong with it. Do you think you could try a different set of eye glasses?"

You're wearing blinkers, not glasses ... you only see what you want to see and you avoid seeing more than the shadows of anything and everything that scares you

Based upon this admission of confirmation bias, your claim of grasping some parts of science is even more a lie.

Why do you need to lie to make an argument?

Well sure, to all of us normal, sane people. To the psycopaths* who wrote it, I am sure love oozes from every syllable.

* - Seeing as how it was written by people; God doesn't appear to exist.
Did you just accuse me of being normal and sane?

In contrast with 'healthy obsession, possibly psychotic in origin'?
Well, it's possible.
