Mel Gibson is getting divorced?!

Wonder what all those sheep who paid to see his ****** movie about the crucifiction must be thinking.

Pretty simple. Adultery. Odds are that wife will get a decree of nullity from the Church (local bishop, methinks) and she'll get a bundle of loot for his betrayal.

Moved his gal friend into one of his mansions? Talk about a bloody insult to his wife.

Not well played. I wonder what pennance his priest assigned when he confessed his adultery. If he didn't confess that sin, as I recall the CCC, then he ain't allowed to receive communion.

So the wife was okay with the adultery so long as he was having "safe" sex?

Grounds for Annulment of a valid marriage:
vows.jpg
Most annulments are based on canon 1095, psychological reasons. These include a wide range of factors. Some of them may be misrepresentation or fraud (concealing the truth about capacity or desire to have children for example, or about an preexisting marriage, drug addiction, felony convictions, sexual preference or having reached the age of consent)
vows.jpg
Refusal or inability to consummate the marriage (inability or refusal to have sex) ,

Bigamy, incest (being married to someone else, or close relatives)
vows.jpg
Duress (being forced or coerced into marriage against one's will or serious external pressure, for example a pregnancy)
vows.jpg
Mental incapacity (considered unable to understand the nature and expectations of marriage)
vows.jpg
Lack of knowledge or understanding of the full implications of marriage as a life-long commitment in faithfulness and love, with priority to spouse and children.
vows.jpg
Psychological inability to live the marriage commitment as described above.

Illegal "Form of Marriage" (ceremony was not performed according to Catholic canon law)

One/both partners was under the influence of drugs, or addicted to a chemical substance.

After 28 years, it's going to be somewhat difficult to prove any of these. Note that adultery is not a ground. I suspect that most good Catholics they'll simply get a civil divorce and that will be that.

At his level, perhaps "simply" is not the appropriate term.

As a general proposition, it's possible to separate the artist from the art.
(Haven't seen it myself, and I'm not interested in seeing it. Torture porn is not my cup of tea. Also, I don't like to support it or him, but that's just me.)

I would be willing to put up with much for half of almost $1 billion, or whatever he's worth. Perhaps she even prefers it that way, so she doesn't have to put up with him full-time. But this seems like a good opportunity for her to take the money and run.

I just wonder if the folks who saw his movie over and over thought, "I helped pay for his adulterous affair... maybe I ought to think twice about shoving my money into the pockets of people who shamelessly market Jesus."

Somewhat familiar with them. But you are mistaken. My cousin got a decree of nullity, back about 1984, due to infidelity.

I suspect that the marriage will be annulled, but you may be right.

We shall see.

Could be.
