Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

So then I would assume that you believe that these "historical" figures probably died for a literary device:

From Wiki's article: List of the Christian martyrs

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_martyrs
Yes. The theme of "sacrifice" and "martyrdom". Makes a great excuse for Xtians to act like they are being prosecuted.

Hey DOC still waiting:
DOC, correct me where I'm wrong. You're saying that the Bible is "the most moral teaching ever known to man", but also that it can't be taken at face value, and you need to remember that some morals in the Bible are only correct for their time, or that Jesus needed to make some moral concessions in order to get his overall point across.

Is this what you think?

Why are you avoiding this question?

Even though Jesus was speaking in ways (parables) that the unenlightened could better understand, his teachings were "still" the most sublime and moral the world has ever known (at least according to Thomas Jefferson).

DOC, this is a salesman answer. You're not honestly answering the question, rather you are framing the question and your answer in the best possible light in order to better sell your point of view, while ignoring aspects that would make your point of view look bad.

Don't do that. Please have an honest discussion with us. Here's the first step you can take in order to do that...

This is my guess on what your position is. I have had to guess because you have not clearly explained it yourself, which is only natural because that would be disadvantageous to a salesman. But you need to stop doing that, and start giving more direct answers. You can start by directly answering my question with a yes or a no.

A simple yes is fine by itself. If the answer is no, what I need you to do is to focus on the part of my statement which isn't accurate, and explain to me why it isn't accurate. Then we will go back and forth and try to nail down exactly what your position is. In this way, we can have an honest, productive discussion.

And you complain about joobz spamming comments regarding the morality of slavery. :rolleyes:

The amount of times I mentioned the "list of martyrs" is nowhere near the amount of times he has mentioned slavery. And you are welcomed to prove me wrong.

And in this thread alone, I'd estimate it is as least 9 to 1 in favor of slavery.

The amount of times you've failed to answer a direct question asked by the general community trumps this.

I'm outnumbered by about 130 to 1. If someone wants to give me a million dollars so I can quit my job and other activities, then I will respond in full to each and every question. Which one question do you want me to respond to the most?

Please don't change my quotes.
Please don't pretend that you can fob me off with half-baked nonsense in response to simple, concise questions

Either
  • you are a liar and know that Jefferson "cut what he didn't like and edited the rest to his his own ends"
Or
  • you are an ignoramus and don't know that Jefferson "cut what he didn't like and edited the rest to his his own ends"

How about this one?

If a messiah did come doesn't it seem logical that he would preach the most moral and sublime teachings ever known to man.

You don't feed babies prime rib. Jesus was speaking in ways the unlightened of that time could digest. That's why he spoke in parables.

Serious question: How do these two seemingly incongruous statements gel - in your view - DOC?

Still waiting

Wow, really? You didn't see where the entire community agree upon a single question and all asked you, linked and everything to address it.

You are either lying, or you're mentally deficient. Which is your pick?

Let me point it out one more time, as Six7s has above.

So then I would assume that you believe that these "historical" figures probably died for a literary device:

* Saint Stephen, Protomartyr, was stoned c. 34 A.D.
* James the Great (Son of Zebedee) was beheaded in 44 A.D.
* Philip the Apostle was crucified in 54 A.D.
* Matthew the Evangelist killed with a halberd in 60 A.D.
* James the Just, beaten to death with a club after being crucified and stoned.
* Matthias was stoned and beheaded.
* Saint Andrew, St. Peter's brother, was crucified.
* Saint Mark was dragged in the streets until his death
* Saint Peter, crucified upside-down.
* Apostle Paul, beheaded in Rome.
* Saint Jude was crucified.
* Saint Bartholomew flayed alive and crucified.
* Thomas the Apostle was killed with a spear.
* Luke the Evangelist was hung.
* Simon the Zealot was crucified in 74 A.D.

(Note: John the Evangelist according to legend was cooked in boiling hot oil but survived. He was the only one of the original twelve Apostles who was not martyred).

Still trying to sell that raggedy old story, huh? What about the number of suicide bombers who have died for Islam? Does that prove Islam is true?

Luke the Evangelist was hung.

Hanged. Hung in this context has a different...connotation.

Somebody call the WAAAHmbulance!

Some of these questions have been asked dozens of times by multiple posters. It is not a time issue, you could answer them in the same time it takes you to compose the off topic posts that follow.

What question has been asked 24 times that I didn't respond to -- give it and I'll respond to it? And I guess my 650 posts are not enough for some people.

You must have had a stroke or a seizure. But I'll forgive your terrible selective memory and repost this:
