Why didn't osama bin laden just hit Israel?

His story is that he took to the Palestinian cause and was peeved that foreign troops were on his holy land. Ok, that's understandable.

He explains that America supports israel and by hitting america he will force the Americans to fight in his sand and economically ruin the Americans like he did the soviets.

Ok, that all makes sense, BUT, Since America was the nucleus of the Israeli aggression and by hitting America he would ruin the whole thing, it seems that that plan is a hair-brained scheme that osama would never accomplish. I mean hitting one of the most secured countries in the world? No way! A country with the highest national defense budget in the world?

If I were to play devils advocate, I'm an evil terrorist who wants to kill Israelis and Americans. What do I do? I would go after Israel. After all they are the no. 1 source of my anger. I would probably hi-jack a plane departing from egypt and heading towards lebanon and crash into Tel Avivs infrastructure.

Again, I must stress that I am merely role playing here. I do not hate Americans and do not hate Israelis. If you want to beat a terrorist, you have to THINK like a terrorist. If I'm thinking like osama, I would come to the conclusion that the original plan had no way of working.

He would have more incentive to try and hijack a plane leaving syria or lebanon where the security is weaker.

What do you guys think? If his plan was to bankrupt America then it is CERTAINLY working, but if his plan was so solve the palestinian cause then it hasn't worked.

Hijacking a plane going from Egypt to Lebanon would no doubt require sacrificing innocent Muslims. But it was mostly Americans in the 9/11 planes, and they are the Great Satan after all.

This is true. The vast majority of Islamic Terrorism has actually been directed at Muslims.

Zawahiri ( influenced by the teachings of Qutb) spent most of his time trying to kill Muslims because he thought they were being corrupted by non-Muslim values. IOW they weren't real Muslims and therefore could legitimately be killed.

Good point.

Even though this is my opinion, I think it would have been easier for osama being the crazy person that he is , to hit a much smaller, less secure country in Israel than compared to the great satan which has thousands of nuclear weapons and was coming off impressive victories in Iraq, siberia, Etc.

However, he was an "insider". He knew all the players in the US government because, like saddam and manny, he was a CIA asset. And he was like a billionaire! So he had enough money to to attack anybody he wanted.
 
I think the most disgusting thing about Islamists is how they kill even their OWN people. The great majority of victims of Islamist terrorists since 2001, were Muslims.

You shouldn't call them Islamists, you should call them Islamist extremists.

Islam believe it or not, means peace.

Actually judaism and christianity mean peace also.

His claim is nonsense. both the neocons and the Islamists claim they brought down the Soviet Union. But neither was true. The Soviet Union was rotten to the core and brought itself down

It wasn't the most secure countries on the 12th Spet 2001 was it. Too busy practicing for a terror threat to notice the real terror threat until it was too late.

Islamist is a term for the extremists, not the mainstream.

I would take issue with the assertion that Islam, Judaism and Christianity mean peace.

Not a bad idea.
Just call it blody revenge instead of justice and avoid any legal nitpicking.

I wonder why he is not hitting powerlines, that would have a serius economic effect. Just keep it up, a few days apart. It does not take much to black out most of the country.

It might surprise you how much trouble can be caused with the drawings of a powerplant or transformer station and a small screwdriver.

There's a difference between Islamic and Islamist. One is cultural the other political.
