WOW.

So the Institute for Human Continuity has been promoting on myspace. Apparently, they know quite a bit more than we, or the scientific community knows:

The IHC's comprehensive research has confirmed with 94% certainty that in the year 2012 cataclysmic forces will decimate our planet and much of its inhabitants.
(Italics mine)

But, ladies and gentlemen, do not worry. For only your name and email address, your can not only be marketed to with fresh survival gear and horrible literature concerning these events, but you can have a chance for survival!!!

The IHC Lottery guarantees every citizen of this planet an equal chance at survival in 2012.... ....Nobody knows precisely what our world will look like on December 12, 2012. We do know, with near complete certainty, that a series of catastrophes will decimate much of the planet. The IHC Lottery will not save everyone. It will, however, give each individual an equal chance at survival.

Get you lotto ticket now! Grant yourself a chance to repopulate mankind!!!:boggled:

Sad thing is, their slick flash website and their heavy promotions will most likely have kids of all ages buying into their 2012 crap. Boy we should get a nice PR campaign going for 2013: "It is 2013 and you, me, and the Earth still exist...are you ready to become a skeptic yet?";)

My guess is that their "comprehensive research" mostly involved reading blogs and consulting psychics.

Is the lotto for space in a super secret bunker or something? Or is the wooniverse supposed to just recognise the specialness of the winning ticket holders and pass over them?

Crystals will be involved. Vibrations, too.

Me, I'm curious about the math that arrived at 94% certainty. That alone has got to be powerful enough to transport a spacecraft

This is the viral marketing which is being done for the roland emmerich film "2012".
It's not actually something real. :D

TKS! They fooled me! Apparently I wasn't skeptical enough about how woo some people and organizations can be!

I've actually a friend who has gotton paid to look hot in bars and suggest a specific type of vodka to all the hopeless lads who attempt to buy her one.

Viral Marketing makes me want to hide.:boxedin: or buy Overman CDs. (Go Viral Marketing Go!) ;)

The word "decimate" means to kill one out of every ten people. So if 90% survive, we've got nothing to worry about.

Yeah, apparently it is a publicity stunt by Sony.
Shame on Sony for promoting woo to sell a stupid movie.
Just another reason to avoid the Emmerich film like the plague.

Too bad that the continued misuse of the word has bumped that definition to #2 and put this at #1:

to destroy a great number or proportion of: The population was decimated by a plague.

Perhaps someone should check with them for clarification.

While we know it's for the film, imagine how many people will cite that as further proof for their delusions? THAT is what's frightening to me.

I wonder if there is a way I can make money off this 2012 hoopay? Maybe I'll "convince" people that I have access to some super secret military bunker, and that I will protect their goods for a modest fee?

One reason I like the film "Fall Of The Roman Empire" despite much of it is ficitional, is it does show quite accurately where the term Decimation comes from.

If the catastrophe ends up being a planet on planet collision, then I will go see the movie for the special effects and destruction.

myspace promotes a lot of movies and this IHC BS is for a new movie coming out this year ...

you can check out the trailer on youtube or apple trailers ...

the name of the movie is 2012
