"Rescue Me" Show on FX Starts 9/11 CT Plot-line

On a related note, last night A&E debuted the new Patrick Swayze show The Beast last night, in which he's a possibly dirty FBI Undercover agent training a new guy (not awful I guess, but it seems to be trying too hard to be "The Shield" right down to the graphics in the opening).

At one point he sends the kid to pick up launch codes for an RPG weapon, and when he meets the dealer the first thing the guy asks him is "are you a truther or are you sheep?" then explains that truthers know how 9/11 was an inside job perpetrated by the government.

Then he immediately hits a bowl of weed, and later blames his own stupidity on "junk" (heroin). :D

So WTF!?!? Did "truthers" infiltrate every Hollywood studio like Scientology did the IRS or what!?!? Heaven forbid they actually get a cameo on another good show.

BTW OT: I just saw Swayze in Roadhouse about two days ago on a Swayze-thon......it was frickin awesome! Roadhouse part 2.....not so much.

If they're cameos like the one Drudgewire described, I think it's quite alright. :)

When I typed that I agreed with you. Then it dawned on me that this is the crowd who voluntarily posts videos of themselves looking like the biggest retards this side of a discussion on the merits of turtles and considers them successes.

They know they're going to look like idiots, but if they're mentioned at all it's a win for them. It's the "say what you want to say but spell my name right" mentality, except with the added irony of being full of members who can't spell very well. :p

Here's a story that the NYTimes did today on the upcoming series. A couple of points about this:

This is a cricially acclaimed and popular show that will start off its fifth season bringing in the Inside Job plot line, which will last for 10 weeks.

I can only imagine the enormous amount of vetting that had to go on to allow the writers to start in on this significant plot line. This was by no means arbitrary. Secondly, Sunjata suggests that firefighters do discuss the possibility of an Inside Job.

Leary co-created the show and stars in it, so this has been included in the series with his knowledge and consent.

I saw this episode. All it did is make whatthehellishisname look like an idiot. I am all for twoofers making idiots of themselves on television.

That's quite impressive considering the show won't air until April.

Uhh, dude, you do realize that this is a fictional show, right?

Do you think a whole team of lawyers goes over the script to every episode of '24' before it airs?

I'm not talking about legal issues, I'm talking about the controversial nature of the upcoming season's subplot.

Secondly, Sunjata suggests that firefighters do discuss the possibility of an Inside Job.

From the link in your post he is speaking about "younger members" of the FDNY, not members who were on the job that day. You remember, the ones who heard those "bombs" going off.

So... CSI did an entire episode on the Shapeshifting Reptilian Overlords. How much vetting do you think that received?

Something tells me that this is much more likely to strike a nerve.

1. smallish audience (although big for the truthers)
2. In that article there is no mention of it being a "plot line". Perhaps a subplot.
3. In that article it does not mention that the "9/11 subplot" will go 10 weeks. I assume you are getting this from someone else, or just making a guess.
4. Denis Leary, from what the article seems to indicate, will likely play the role he does in real life with respect to the theories, namely that he does not believe them, and gets really annoyed with those who do. You ever see his comments about said theories on "Glenn Beck"?

All of your points are reasonable. I wasn't suggesting this was some kind of massive exposure. I think it's interesting that the NYTimes reported on it and that the topic was treated even handedly.

Need I remind of you of the great publicity the troofers got out of South Park dedicating an entire episode to them:

Cartman: They aren't going to find out who did it, but they will make up a scapegoat, send him to detention, and make us all believe it. It will be 9/11 all over again.

Kyle: Will you shut up about 9/11!

Cartman: Kyle, why are you so afraid of the truth?

Kyle: Because anybody who thinks 9/11 is a conspiracy is a retard!

Cartman: Oh really, well did you know that over 1/4th of the people in America think that 9/11 was a conspiracy? Are you saying that 1/4th of Americans are retards?

Kyle: Yes, I am saying that 1/4th of Americans are retards.

Stan: At least 1/4th.

Kyle: Let's take a test sample. There's 4 of us, you're a retard. That's 1/4th.
