Transparency in psychological manipulation? Here's what is not possible

Oh. So you don't create "paranormal events?" The psychic channeling of Raymond Hill and talking to the dead is all just part of a cheesy magic act? Why didn't you say so?

Paranormal events create themselfs.

I exhibit them and encourage them to tke place.

Channeling is a learned skill.

I do not talk to the dead but to those who have died.

I'm not sure he's completely wrong, because I just manipulated him into posting this exact message!!

That is how it's done, isn't it, Jimbo? Claim credit, after the fact, for what ever shows up?

No one can manipulate anyone through the written word given any use of arbitrary capitalization and extra spaces.

A individual of extreme grammatical and spelling skill (e.g. an English major) could make an anonymous post with intentional errors. If even one other person responded in criticism, that would seem to refute your entire argument.

I can only assume that you and I differ in our definition of manipulation.

Well I manipulated him to post so you would post your message.

How fun, whoever posts last wins.

But what do i know all the people that I know who have died are still dead.

:)

Jimbo, you need to watch a few professional magicians. Work on your patter. This stuff is a snooze.

So "those who have died" is something completely different from "the dead"?

Anyone else notice this remarkable display of nonsense?
I bet he's referring to those who claim to have had an NDE. "Those who have died" doesn't necessarily mean "Those who have died and stayed that way."

Everybody is interested in closure.
Posters on this board who use vague language and refuse clarity can manipulate people into continuing to try to achieve this closure even when it is clear that it will never come.

Look at all the posters, Jim included, who have made it very clear that they will never engage in straightforward conversation. Yet people continue to engage them and give them the attention they're looking for. I see that as a manipulation.

It's simpler than that. The goal is to confuse and be ambiguous while acting as if you have some kind of authority and confidence. Nothing more.

All one has to do is ignore it because the more you reply, the more you give the person doing this more chances to twist words and ideas.

Were is the definition so that I might confirm this.

In addition were have I taken advantage of anyone on a spiritual level?

Yes I create things that become reality but how is that spiritual?

Just look at what your own website promises. You can't deliver on your promises.

I do stage hypnosis. But I have been known to do hypnosis through text. How? Well, there's a perfectly simple, non-woo and obvious explaination: confusion.

You're right to a point, Senex. Text hypnosis or NLP won't work if the subject doesn't want it to. But throw in some confusion, along with confidence and ambiguity, then it is possible to sway a person to be more open to a suggestion.

What works on a stage doesn't work in real life. Stage hypnotists aren't ruling the world. Sad but true.

Hmmm, You should use "a" before a consonant and "an" before a vowel. My argument may be refuted -- but your efforts are misplaced. I'm a foolish fellow -- take on someone who thinks they are smarter than they are.

In the interests of honesty, that was not intentional. I really was just posting an argument and mistyped. No manipulation intended. :)

Agreed.
What I am saying, though, is that confusion with an assertive and confident attitude might make someone more open to a given suggestion. It's something that con-men have been using for years. Confuse a person, be ambiguous, give a quick suggestion with some authority, and the subject will be more open to follow than someone who isn't confused.
Can this be done on text? To a point, to some people, depending.
I did say that if you see what is being done, and don't want to do it, it won't work. I've never said that this is a sure-fire, always working thing. I am merely telling you what the idea is behind it.
Hypnotists, magicians, con-men, cold readers, etc, all use it:
Confuse the subject using ambiguity. Be authoritative and confident, while throwing in a suggestion.

I'm familiar with manipulation techniques. I'm not saying you can't be manipulated with text. What I am saying is that manipulation can not occur on as subliminal level as some here wish/believe.

None accepted ;)

And I am agreeing with you. :)

All I meant to do was to shed some information on what some people might try. :)
