Inauguration Crap

Worst poem......ever!
I don't know if the poem was any good at all because I simply couldn't get past that horrible I'm-reciting-poetry delivery. Whenever I hear that, I think they're trying to make each word carry more significance than it actually does. As if to say, "These aren't ordinary words. This is poetry."

Or rather, "These. Aren't. Or. Di. Nary. Words."

Yay! He actually recognized non-believers! It will be refreshing not to have a president who considers himself the Minister-in-Chief.

I also like the couple of statements he made about not accepting the idea that we have to choose between security and our ideals. A few really good turns of phrase.

I liked the line about "restor[ing] science to its rightful place."

Your post resonated with me. You should make it a poem.

The inauguration speech was better than I expected it would be. It covered a lot of ground, and wasn't just a feel-good presentation. It seemed to emphasize that things are bad, really, bad, and everyone needs to get to work to fix it, and it's not going to be easy work either.

I know - it's just a speech. But, in was a good way to set a tone, and a direction, which is important for a leader to be doing.

Mulatto, but anyway... no when making the decision on who to elect, I'd look at what he's achieved (a year or 2 in the senate), some work on fund raising with Ayers the terrorist, his communist upbringing, and his socialist plans for America and move him up front and center ahead of people with decades of experience and service to this country.

Oh, for crying out loud.

And just in case it wasn't bad enough to treat atheists as non-Americans, the good pastor ended with a Christian prayer. Get the message, all you non-Christians out there?

Yeah, but Obama included non-believers in his speech!

So did Roberts. Bad coordination between them. :boggled:

I was wondering who screwed up what, though I couldn't blame Obama for being nervous.

Great speech.

I felt the prayer was very nice. I can't see how even the most strident atheist can have a problem with it beyond the fact it's being said to an invisible deity :). But all the content was wonderful and things that would be good for everyone to try to do and hope for. Uplifting.

The poem totally lost me..

Had to tune off CNN though. One of their commentators keeps harping on slavery as if the viewers and crowd were previous slave owners. 'Yawn'. They found some black Republican lady, probably the only one in the world...

I'm glad you said this. I was wishing I had been watching on CCN. I couldn't switch because I was DVR'ing on both channels. I watched NBC and they had a few technical glitches, bad mikes and picture problems.

Well more than this new President it would seem. I thought he was going to bring about "change"? Well I've given him a chance and nothing has changed.

Bolding mine. Now, I applauded at that!

Well, he had beaten up Cheney right before the inauguration, obviously. That's a good start, me thinks. :)

What was the name of that piece by John Williams? I really liked that.

The song Aretha sang was "My Country, 'Tis of Thee." The melody is shamelessly lifted from the British national anthem. It's not the national anthem - that's "the Star Spangled Banner."

Yes, the melody for our national anthem is shameless lifted from another British song, "To Anacrean In Heaven" :D
