The UN report gives ample indications that the IDF deliberately shelled the UN compound and not the nearby Hezbollah rocket launching sites.

The UN gives way too much credence to the accuracy of shelling in a combat situation. Military commanders can only dream of such accuracy in real combat.

And Hamas denies it too. However, the BBC reports that residents confirm that there was firing from the area at the school, and it is claimed that two well-known Hamas rocket operators were killed in the attack.

So are we to believe that Israel is targetting UN schools just for the hell of it, or is the lesson they're trying to teach that if you fire on Israel, no matter where you are you Israel will hit back?

Clearly it's in Hamas' interest to get Israel to hit such emotive civilian-rich targets, because it makes them look really bad. For its part, it seems to me that Israel is resigned to hitting these targets simply because they might as well wipe out as many active Hamas servicemen as they can while they're being the media's Bad Boy. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Meanwhile, it is incredibly frustrating that the UN just stands there wringing its handkerchief between its hands and saying how awful it all is. Those refugee camps should be unimpeachable.

Yes people take up this theme when discussing the Iraq war as well. They like to claim that the US just goes around killing civilians for fun. Same thing goes for the Israelis apparently. They just can't get enough of killing innocent people.

Even if it was, it doesn't surprise me that they allow Hamas to hide in their facilities given the UN's general stance on Israel.

You are honestly declaring that the UN is willing to actively support a terrorist organisation in order to bring down the state of Israel? This is not far off 9/11 Conspiracy nonesense.

As for the topic itself, it is distressing how little the newspapers over here in Britain are reporting on the allegation that Hamas were firing from the school. The Independent makes no mention of it on their front page, once again making a mockery of their name.

Who do you believe, the report of someone who was thousands of miles away at the time or the people who were actually there?

I found this part of the report quite telling:

(c) About 15 minutes before the shelling, they fired between 5 and 8 rounds of 120 millimetre mortar from a location 220 metres from the center of the compound. The location was identified on the ground. According to witnesses, the mortar was installed ther between 1100 and 1200 hours that day, but no action was taken by UNIFIL personnel to remove it.

Basically, Hezbollah was using the UN compound as cover and the UN failed to do a damned thing about it. If the UN is not willing to protect their assets from Hezbollah they had no business being there in the first place. What followed is sadly predictable, and the UN is playing CYA by blaming Israel.

There's no evidence that armed Hamas fighters were in the school.

The Jerusalem Post article even uses footage from a completely different incident to bolster this news article. but in fairness does say,
