This wasn't a "neocon" PNAC idea either, regardless of what the history-inept twoofers say. Clinton tried to sack Saddam for breaking the UN Security Council Resolutions while he was in office.

The Clintons and the Bushes are part of the same machine. So is Obama.

Remember when Cheney said Saddam wasn't worth many American lives back in '94? What event do you think changed his mind?

What makes you think he changed his mind? The US invaded Iraq largely because of oil.

It's also possible that the imperial warmongers were so deluded that they believed Iraq would be a cake walk.

It seems to me that perhaps your continued discussion of why the war was started deserves a thread of it's own to discuss it in full, perhaps in Politics.

Perhaps it does, though 911 is hardly an apolitcal topic. It was used to fire US war fever. I, for one, have said my pieces anyway.

Maybe the United States should invade Canada to steal all their oil. After all, they have much more than Iraq and will probably put up less of a fight than Saddam.

Yes, but we will beat you silly with our hockey sticks, and chase you down with our moose...eh!

TAM;)

Controlling oil isn't about making a fortune. That's side effect for the lucky few. It is about access to energy. Without energy the US and UK economies (what's left of them!), any economy, cannot function.

A Ponzi, usury-based economy needs an ever-increasing energy supply, otherwise it collapses.

None then? How much access did the US have to middle east oil prior to invasion and how much now?

They already had a foothold in that area, with friendly nations, for years.

Think about it.

I find it hard to accept that you actually believe these lame excuses and even harder to believe that you believe that I "know fine well" that these paltry reasons account for such an epic slaughter.

Lots of ignoring of UN resolutions were provocation. Now you shift the goalposts again? I have never said I agree with the reasons, motives or the slaughter.

Bush JR needed no oil excuse to finish off earlier work started by his father.

JJ said:
I'm unclear why you are so attached to "all" when you have stated that there is no connection whatsoever between the assault on Iraq and oil

You are unclear on quite a lot.

does not sanction an invasion.

Was provocation none the less. You said there was none. Will it be an occupation when they leave?

Without a massive contraction of its economy it will never again have enough native fossil fuels to power itself.

Or a change of direction on energy.

The Bohemian Grove? Opus Dei? The Get-Along-Gang? Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? The Polyphonic Spree? The Roswell Greys? The KISS Army?

Enough foreplay, help us out here. Unless their tree fort doesn't have a flag flying above and their club doesn't have a formal title, in which place we're playing Ghost Hunters with vague and mysterious shadow governments that no one seems to know any details about other than that they most definitely exist and can do anything they want.

I should post the Stuart MacKenzie rant again.

Show us how much oil the US is getting from Iraq. Or any of the coalition countries for that matter.

Not much, from what I remember. Cuz it's "sour" crude? Or too far to ship?

But couldn't a reason be not because we want their oil, etc, but rather that stability in the region help lower the price of crude overall, since the Saudis have the cheapest production costs, and control the market? And so, making them "feel" good helps with OUR oil prices?

The US wants to control Iran by whatever means necessary. It will try covert means first. Obama is very definitely "part of this".

So, does every US politician want to control Iran? Do you have to sign a contract for this before running for President?

The US has already invaded "itself".

Without a massive contraction of its economy it will never again have enough native fossil fuels to power itself.

Actually, the US has enough fossil fuels to power itself for a long time, longer than any of us will be alive, for sure.

Epic stupidity. Please spend more time learning a little about American politics and less time worrying about getting the last word.

I'm all ears. Show me your evidence. Tone the trolling down please.

It's also possible that the imperial warmongers were so deluded that they believed Iraq would be a cake walk.

Saddam's army sure was a cake walk. The handling of Iraq after Saddam's demise was mismanaged.

does not sanction an invasion.

Care to back up this claim with evidence?

To all on the forum, whatever your beliefs

I wish you a brave New Year,
All anguish, pain and sadness,
Leave your heart and let your road be clear."

Well, I'm off, going to celebrate Christmas with my friends in Amsterdam.
I hope I don't bump into 9/11-investigator ;)

Since the forums will close for maintenance in a few hours, will the last one to leave be so kind as to turn off the lights?

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Bumpity boppity boo.

Does anyone know, without googling or wikipediaing, who was responible for the Beslan school siege?

a) Separatist movement in Chechnya
b) Riyadus-Salikhin Reconnaissance
c) The KGB
d) Israel
e) don't know
f) other

How about Shamil Basayev and his Riyadus-Salikhin who were also responsible for the 2002 Grozny truck bombing? Interesting self-identification with those goons. The only recon they did was to case targets for their martyrdom operations.

Rigging a gymnasium full of kids with explosives. *spit* Bastards.
